Hello,
My name is Celia Roberts and today we're doing meditation for getting some vitamin D.
So I encourage you whilst we're in lockdown or self-isolation to try and get some natural sunlight to the body.
If you're in a small apartment or you're in your own home,
See if you can rest with full contact of sun to the body in a window,
In the garden or wherever you can get some privacy in your own home or garden,
Even if you have to wear your swimwear to get some full contact of light to the body.
Generally for our health we want to have about 15 minutes.
Of sunlight all over the body for good health.
So at this precious time in our lives where we have the time to rest,
Rejuvenate and to practice quiet like true meditators,
True yogis.
See if you can use the sun.
And so now we come to the practice of meditation.
Come fully into the body.
Observe the touch of the breath in the abdomen.
Notice the rise and fall of the belly breath.
Notice the warmth of the sun on the abdomen or the skin.
Absorb the sunlight into the body with a depth of awareness.
So I want you to see if you can almost feel the sunlight,
The rays of the sun being absorbed by the body,
Healing the body.
This sunlight balances melatonin levels so will help with sleep and what's shown to be best in terms of receiving sunlight is late morning sunlight to balance melatonin levels at night to improve them so your sleep is better.
We also want to increase vitamin D.
And so as you absorb the sunlight just feel the health of the body in your own small way improving.
This is particularly an important practice for those who have MS and when I refer to the 15 minutes of all over body sunlight I reference the work of Dr.
George Genlinick who is a sufferer of MS and has found this to be a very important part of his healing program.
However this rings true for all of us.
This 15 minutes of all over body sunlight in our togs or wherever we can receive it to our skin is really important for our health,
Our well-being,
Our sleep cycles,
Even our digestion.
Again return to the belly breath.
As you feel the body exhale see if you can allow the sun to absorb into the body on the exhalation.
And as you rest in the sun see if you can notice these different bodily parts receiving that beautiful sunlight,
That warmth,
That light.
Bring your attention to the forehead and see that you can receive the sun to the forehead.
Feeling the sensation of sun as it hits the forehead.
Feeling the sensation of sun as it hits the eyes or eyelids depending on the strength of the sunlight.
If the sun is on the face at this time and it's too strong feel free to place a dental cloth over the face otherwise if it's soft enough for you let the sun absorb into the skin of the face.
From here let the sun touch the throat.
The chest.
Very consciously feel the sunlight hitting the skin of the left arm down into the hand.
Feel the sunlight gently touching the right arm and the absorption of light all the way down to the right palm.
Move into the mid torso and a long practiced ayurvedic technique is to allow sun to this region of the body to help balance menstrual cycles and digestive cycles.
We do believe this sun has an effect on our hormonal cycles and I have researched its capacity to perhaps affect the microbiome and although the research is in its early days there seems to be a link.
Sunlight does help digestion and normalizes reproductive cycles.
Let the sun do this for you now.
Let the sun soften,
Heal,
Enliven this region of the body.
Absorb the life energy of the sun into the torso.
In fact even light on a certain part of the woman's cycle a certain number of days of the women's cycle in the form of a 100 watt light globe can actually affect the hormonal cycles of women.
The hormonal cycles of women.
And the menstrual cycles as well.
So absorb the light to regulate the body and mind.
Move more deeply down the body and into the left leg.
And feel life being absorbed or prana of the sun being absorbed,
The energy of the sun being absorbed into that leg.
Toes,
The foot,
The shin,
The calf,
Knee and thigh.
Do the same on the right side.
The toes of the right foot,
The ankle,
The shin,
Knee,
Thigh and hips.
It's time see if you can turn the body over so that you're lying on your front.
And from here see that you can follow the same awareness pattern from the top of the body down to the feet.
Feel the sun hitting the back of the head,
The neck,
The back of the chest,
The torso,
The spine.
Let the whole body,
Back body,
Breathe in the energy of the sun.
Let the whole body breathe.
Let your awareness tremble down through the back of the legs,
The buttocks to the foot.
Left side and then the right side.
Again be aware of the whole back body.
Spend some time here,
Simply breathing in the sunlight,
Breathing in the good,
The life or energy,
The life force and allowing the sunlight to really boost your immune system,
To wish you well.
