So close your eyes now and begin by taking a few deep breaths,

Breathing in through your nose and then out through your mouth.

See if you can do that a few times now as you are resting comfortably on your bed or in a chair.

It is important that we give ourselves permission to take time out just to be,

To just let go.

To let go of any thoughts,

Of responsibilities or worries and fears that may be playing on your mind right now.

This is your chance to take time out for yourself.

Allow each breath to relax and to comfort you.

Noticing in a detached way how you are simply breathing in and breathing out.

You may notice all the areas of your body that are connected to your bed or chair.

And right now imagine yourself growing roots.

Roots that go down through your body and into the earth.

Feeling those roots spreading downwards and giving stress and worry and fear a place to move to.

Out and away from you.

Any sounds that you hear around you in the house or just the sounds coming from this recording will simply reassure you that things are carrying on just as normal.

Life goes about its business and that it is safe for you to just switch off.

And I am wondering if you can imagine now a tiny little hatch at the top of your head and through this hatch a beautiful nourishing soothing light now floods through.

Flooding in all the way through your head.

Relaxing those tiny little muscles at the top of your scalp.

Relaxing your forehead and those little muscles around your eyes.

You might notice that your eyelids feel very very heavy and that even if you want to open them it almost feels impossible.

Relax your jaw muscles,

Your cheeks,

Your lips and your tongue.

You can even imagine that your skin feels floppy and loose.

And now notice this wonderful white beautiful light moving down into your neck and into your shoulders.

Relaxing and soothing any tight muscles,

Any tension,

Anything you are holding onto in this area.

See that just wafting away like smoke from a bonfire.

This light heals and soothes whatever it comes into contact with and it obliterates fear and worry.

And notice how this warmth moves down into your arms like warm honey trickling down into your elbows,

Your forearms,

Your wrists and your hands.

And notice this light now moving into your chest.

The chest being an area where we often hold onto things.

We hold our breath,

We find it difficult to breathe sometimes in stress and anxiety.

So I am wondering if you can take a deep breath in now and imagine that you are breathing in more of this beautiful white light,

This healing light and then exhaling it into the area of your chest.

And notice how this light opens up possibilities,

It creates space and lightness,

Freedom and relief.

And you might notice even now that your breathing feels a little bit less laboured,

A little bit easier,

A little bit more comfortable.

And see the light now moving on into your belly,

The centre for feelings such as guilt and shame,

Anxiety,

Worry,

Fear.

And imagine again that you are taking a deep breath in,

Breathing in more of this white light and then exhaling it into your belly area.

All the muscles,

The stomach lining,

Your intestines,

Your digestive system,

Just notice it all bathed in light,

Healing light that makes everything just work as it should.

Your body knows exactly what to do to be healthy,

It has that wisdom that you were born with.

And when we allow our body to let go and our mind to relax,

We enable ourselves to drop back into that homeostasis where everything just works,

Where we don't meddle or interfere.

Instead we let our mind and our body do what they do best.

And see this light now moving down into your hips and into your thighs,

Down through your knees,

Into your shins and your calves,

Ankles loosen,

Soften and then out into your feet and your toes.

And noticing that now you are filled with this beautiful healing light all the way from the top of your head down to the soles of your feet.

There is nothing left for you to do.

You can just continue to breathe slowly in and out,

Imagining yourself letting go of anything that no longer serves you.

See outdated beliefs and negative thinking,

Fearful assumptions and catastrophizing simply float up and drift away,

Leaving you feeling calmer and even more relaxed with every breath that you take,

More at ease,

More peaceful.

And in this wonderful state of relaxation I am wondering if you can imagine the biggest,

Softest,

Fluffiest cloud you have ever seen.

This cloud is floating beneath you waiting to support your whole body as you sink deeper and deeper into this wonderfully relaxing cloud.

I am going to count you down from 10 to 1 and as the number gets lower your body sinks further and further into this cloud so that you can feel more and more and more relaxed.

10,

Sinking deeper and deeper,

Allowing yourself to just let go.

9,

Deeper and deeper,

Letting that cloud gently swaddle you.

8,

Deeper and deeper,

Feeling sleepier and deeply relaxed.

7,

Deeper and deeper,

Allowing the cloud to cushion your entire being.

7,

Deeper and deeper,

Supporting the full weight of your body.

6,

Deeper and deeper,

Totally supportive,

Letting go now.

7,

Sinking almost deeper,

Down into weightless relaxation.

4,

Deeper and deeper down,

So very relaxed.

3,

You have lost all sense of having a body now as you fall deeper and deeper down into relaxation.

2,

Only aware of your mind and my voice.

1,

You are now at the deepest,

Deepest possible level of pure relaxation.

More relaxed than you have been in a long,

Long time.

You don't have to pay much attention to what I am saying because your subconscious mind hears every word.

You are free to dream about whatever you please.

Your subconscious mind is now open and ready to receive suggestions and ideas,

New ways of looking at life,

Tuning into that inner confidence and knowing.

And as you just let your mind drift for a while now,

Enjoying this quiet,

Peaceful state,

You might notice just how easy it is to put your mind into neutral,

Letting it just tick over nicely,

Doing everything it needs to do in the background without your conscious attention.

This is how the mind feels when it is resting,

When it is free from anxiety and free from worry.

That doesn't lead anywhere.

Solutions to life problems always come to mind much easier when you are able to just loosen that grip,

When you are okay with not knowing,

Comfortable with uncertainty.

Life is uncertain,

But we are all equipped to deal with this quite comfortably and we do it best when we are nicely relaxed.

You know exactly how you really would like things to be and of course you can create that life for yourself.

You have everything you need available to you and you will start to notice just how much easier it is going to become to take control in a way which is really satisfying for you,

In a way that empowers you and gives you back that intellectual control that you have been missing,

Allowing yourself to put the mind into neutral,

Disengage from old patterns,

Negative feelings to a whole new way of viewing your life.

You have a new perspective and as you look back you will be able to see it much clearer.

You can imagine the mind as a glass of water with a little bit of sediment in it and if you shake and stir that glass of water the contents become cloudy and unsettled.

But if you just allow the glass to be still,

To simply be,

Then the sediment settles to the bottom and the water becomes clear yet again,

Crystal clear.

So you can resolve now to just leave that glass of water to settle and remember that if it becomes cloudy again it's just because someone has knocked it over or that you have been triggered.

But rather than picking the glass up and trying to fix the problem with worry and fear,

You now know that all you need to do is to just simply leave that glass where it is.

You notice that when you do so it becomes clear again in no time at all.

This can be like enlightenment that they can create order in chaos.

That sometimes the best course of action is no action at all,

Just allowing things to settle down,

To disengage thoughts,

Clear our minds,

To have a sense of clarity.

And I'm wondering if you can cast your mind forwards.

I don't know when that will be,

It could be tonight or it could be next week but I do know that you will decide when the time is right and when you make that decision you are going to be able to get your life back on track in no time at all.

Feeling such a great sense of pride,

Being able to enjoy a better life.

You will know when it's better,

You will know when you have gained control of your mind and your body again.

You will have no doubt about this.

This doesn't happen just by accident,

This is something that you have done and practiced and achieved.

Little daily steps that you have taken to bring yourself to this place in your life when you are in control yet again.

And that is how life is,

It challenges us so that we move beyond our comfort zone.

And in doing that we grow,

We realize that we become something greater than we were before.

That we have learned about how the life processes work,

How to overcome difficulties and in time we can look back and see that our difficulties may also have been our greatest teachers even though we can't perhaps see it right now.

So you can make that decision to put something behind you now,

Something that no longer is working for you.

Decide to close that door and leave it in the past.

Knowing now that you know so much more about yourself,

That you know and are aware of your own strength,

That you are so confident in your own ability to deal easily with any difficulties.

And we can do this by harnessing the power of your imagination to paint a picture,

A new vibrant picture of you and how your life will be when you have made these important changes in both thought and behaviour.

And in the past certain things may have been worrisome for you,

Situations and people triggered you.

But now you wake up feeling wonderfully refreshed,

Pleased to notice that you have slept very well and that you are looking forward positively to the day ahead no matter what it contains.

You enjoy feeling a sense of calm and confidence when you think about what you're going to be doing.

There may be a feeling that you think is familiar,

A feeling that may once have brought you into an anxious state.

But now this has shifted into excitement,

A sense of self-belief and confidence,

A bit of adrenaline to keep you alert and focused,

Knowing that you are in control,

Knowing that you are prepared for this because you have been rehearsing everything in your mind with your imagination.

And the imagination is known as the rehearsal room of your mind.

And we are able to train over and over again until we achieve exactly what we want in just the way that we want it.

And I'm wondering now if you can imagine a situation coming up in the future that may in the past have been causing you some sort of anxiety.

And I'm wondering if you can see yourself now a few weeks later.

This is already in your past,

This event.

And I would like you to notice just how confident you look,

The sense of achievement that you exude.

There is something different about you,

Everyone can pick up on it.

You're feeling much more in control about yourself and your body.

And the sense of pride and achievement means that you are motivated to try other things that in the past may have felt impossible for you,

May have felt like a door was shut.

But now,

With all these possibilities ahead,

With all these doors that are open,

I want you to see what is possible for you now that you are different.

Now when you are self-assured,

When you see things in its true perspective,

And when you don't get things out of context.

You notice how much easier it is to be assertive and confident and go for things that are important to you.

And you look after your health and your wellbeing and you do all those things that you know work.

You walk around with your head held high,

Confidence that you can play big and that you are allowed to take up space in this world and do things that in the past you felt you couldn't.

You feel like you can be seen and heard in a different way.

And I'm going to leave you just for a moment for you to really paint this imaginary image of yourself a few weeks from now.

Seeing yourself so confident,

So happy having achieved something you felt was difficult.

You can see yourself talking about it and laughing.

As a matter of fact,

Lightness is something that comes across very clearly.

Again other people notice there is something freer about you.

Like you have shifted a weight that you have carried for a long time.

Like a heavy backpack that is no longer part of your story.

And without the backhoe,

Without the weight,

What is possible for you?

What decisions will you make?

That's it.

And you notice that you are not alone.

And you notice also how easily you deal with any situation that occurs in your life.

Things that in the past may have made you tense and upset.

You now deal with confidently and calmly,

So relaxed,

So self-assured.

You have developed trust in yourself,

Trust in your mind and trust in your body.

And this is now sending a very powerful message to your subconscious mind.

Make all of this a reality for you.

Just like a strong sturdy mountain in a storm.

Winds blow and rain crashes down on you but you remain still,

Connected to the earth.

You are calm and unaffected but whatever life throws at you,

You have a deep sense of confidence that storms have raged before and they may rage again.

But you will remain just fine.

And that outside influences do not disturb your placid state of mind.

You have all the inner resources you need to cope effectively with whatever comes your way.

And any worries you may have about the past and the future seem so much less important now.

And in the coming days and weeks you will notice how you are becoming calmer and more relaxed every single day.
