This meditation is a simple somatic coaching session to enable you to turn your life around- step by simple step. It will be especially useful on a day when you have a daunting task ahead of you, or you want to do something that perhaps you have been putting off for quite some time! It will support you in taking an action to make a positive change- via recognising and owning your personal power; and by developing a sense of increased competency and efficiency- from doing a simple body-based awareness practice of how you move through the world. You will leave feeling more empowered, embodied, and ready to "do the thing".

Transcript

This meditation is a somatic coaching session to support you in doing the thing.

It will bring you calmness and courage so that you can take on that task you've been meaning to tackle for quite some time.

The thing that will support you turning your life around.

We will come to bravery and boldness and self-confidence as a result of standing together and practicing for this short session.

I'm going to invite you to stand if you're physically able to do so for this session.

Begin by feeling rooted on the ground and spine straight.

There are many ways to practice and our meditation does not have to be sitting.

So take a deep breath and find your tallness.

Your good posture doesn't have to be rigid but your strength and your length as we work together to take on the thing in your life you've been putting off.

I want to start by reminding you that our lives change by the course of day to day drift.

That over time our thoughts and actions accumulate.

That our habits have momentum and that's great when they're good habits and good thoughts.

But sometimes our old ways can keep us stagnant and stop us from moving forward.

I don't know what doing the thing is for you personally but I know that as humans sometimes we procrastinate and that it doesn't serve us.

So let there be no shame here.

Just an acknowledgement that today you have chosen to get braver and to do this somatic practice to bring you boldness before you take on doing the thing.

I will say a few more words and then we will go into the somatic practice,

Into supporting us in taking the one next step.

Because we are capable of great change and we can chart new courses through our life.

And I think that actually it is the daily practices that most change our life.

That most support us in doing it differently.

The immense events can be useful.

The workshops,

The seeing,

The peak experiences,

They support us too.

And yet it is simple and consistent daring and daily habits that support us in going forward.

So here let's practice them.

You want to do the thing today.

You want to take on the task.

Start the new habit.

Do something brave.

Perhaps it's having a conversation.

Perhaps it's sending a job application.

Perhaps it's looking at your debt or starting investing.

Perhaps it's putting yourself on a dating app or a million more.

Whatever it is for you bring it to mind.

What is it the thing that it would serve you to do?

So notice you're standing.

Soften your knees so they're not locked out.

Let your pelvis drop down.

Let your spine straighten.

Not rigidly forcefully pulled up but a sense of this column of bone rising up out of your spine.

Of your own backbone and sturdiness and strength.

And if physically you're not able to stand right now then you can do this inside your own mind if you're bedbound or in a wheelchair.

Feel your feet rooted to the ground.

Feel the earth beneath you rising up to meet you.

The solid surface you are standing on.

Feel that you are on good ground.

Land feet first into this present moment.

Into the potency that you have within you.

Deepen your breath.

Soften your belly and let your shoulder blades drop down the back of the body so that your heart opens a little more.

Lift your chin up.

Not overextended with pride but so that your head is held high with dignity.

Call in courage into your heart.

Summon it.

Come on courage.

Be with me.

Choose to orientate towards that feeling rather than the fear or anything your mind is muttering.

Or the pull towards procrastination.

Notice if you want to start scrolling right now.

That's taking you out of the feeling of potency you have within your own body.

I dare you to feel your own power.

To feel your own agency and to own that goodness that you have within you.

Call in bravery.

Believe that you are the one that can turn your life around.

You do not need someone or something outside of you to do that.

Feel the fire in your belly for living better.

The hope that you have within your own heart.

Now we're going to practice taking one literal step forward from poise,

From presence,

From possibility,

From passion,

From daring,

From delight.

So bring to mind again what it is that you want to do.

This good habit you want to set up.

This task you want to take on.

And then take one literal step forward in your space.

Not a shuffle forward but a step.

Firm,

Grounded,

With dignity,

With determination,

With levity.

Feel the core of you,

The center of you,

The potency of your presence.

Take another step towards that that you want.

On one level,

Yes,

We are simply standing and taking a few steps forward.

On another level,

We are rewiring our body,

Our somatic senses,

To feel that we have potency in the way that we move forward.

To feel that we have agency within us.

To feel that we have hope within our heart.

So stand and for a third time practice taking one clear and dignified step towards that which you want.

Doing the thing isn't usually hard,

Although life can be complicated.

It's all that we do to stop ourselves actually getting to the task that blocks us.

So as you stand here,

Notice that in your mind you can take the next step.

And I invite you to call in Lady Luck,

This mythical creature that Lady Luck might back us up.

Summon the forces of good fortune.

Call in a sense of it going well,

That there are invisible forces backing you up.

Maybe it's our imagination.

Maybe there are forces out there,

I have no idea.

But call in a sense that there is goodness around you supporting you.

So we are feeling our own strength and agency and we are feeling like life might just be backing us up.

Notice how your body feels,

That perhaps you feel a little grounded and some goodness in you as you do this.

So I want to recap what we have practiced here.

Firstly,

We practice becoming present,

Standing tall and bringing our body into a better regulated state with deep breaths,

With balance in the body,

With relaxing our shoulders.

Then we have practiced moving forwards with dignity,

With poise,

With diligence,

Taking one physical step,

Practicing this sense that we can do it,

This sense that we're fit for the task.

And then we have summoned in a sense that life is backing us up,

That perhaps there are things helping us.

We have called in a sense of optimism,

The possibility that it might go well.

We have harvested hope.

So as we finish up today and you go on and do the thing which I know you can do,

Know that there is bravery in beginnings,

Know that there is power in taking on the tasks,

Know that you do have a choice to change your life and you are doing it.

Know that somatic practice literally rewires the way that we move through the world.

It's not just standing and walking,

It's cultivating a new sense of self as a person that can change their life,

As a heart that has hope,

As someone who can learn new things.

So I bow to you for your practice today,

For your bravery,

And I invite you to come back to this centred stance and I invite you to return to this sense of standing centred,

Of bravely stepping forwards,

Of taking on your goals,

Of taking on your life,

Of lifting up your own heart.

Yay for you for practising.

Go forth and do the thing,

You've so got this.

I send you goodness and wildness and wonder into your day.

Thank you for taking the time to practise with me.

Lovely and inspirational. I completely agree that it’s what we do every day that cultivates feeling confident and competent.
