A meditation exploring how we can come into the present moment by not trying so hard at our mindfulness practice, and instead by simply sitting still and welcoming in our own experience and the goodness and grace of the everyday life that is all around us. It focuses on letting ourselves drop into presence- rather than us seeking to go out and “seize the moment”; instead, we simply relax and let the moment come to us! It will lead you to a sense of gratitude for this day of your life, and leave you better able to be with whatever is happening in your inner and outer world right now.

This is a meditation on all the ways that we seek to be present with the moment,

The precious present moment,

And how sometimes our meditation practice can be just another way we reach out and try and grab presence.

Today,

We're gonna explore letting the moment come to us,

Letting presence drop in,

Letting our practice be pleasurable and soft and sweet.

And not another thing that we have to do with our lives.

So let us begin.

Do not seek to seize the moment.

Do not reach out and grab the moment.

Do not try and wrangle it down with your mighty mindfulness.

The moment will not be there with consent if you do.

Do not try and hunt down the present moment with your practice.

Do not track it with your breath or follow it too fiercely.

The present moment doesn't like being stalked.

Simply turn your palms over and open your hands.

Stay still and let the moment come towards you.

Let the present moment make its own choices.

Do not seek to cajole or convince it to come to you.

The moment has a heart and a mind of its own,

And it may have better intelligence than we do.

We do not have to try so hard to be present.

Presence is already here.

We can simply soften into it.

The present moment arises in its own unique timing.

It comes in close when it's good and ready.

We do not have to use our meditation practice to force things to be different.

We simply sigh and soften and drop a little deeper into just what is.

Commit yourself to choosing this moment.

Partner with this moment.

Be faithful to what you find here.

See that the way you shape your life and how you show up in this dynamic with the present moment shifts it.

You may wish to magnetize this moment by meeting it with your gaze.

Rather than having your eyes closed in meditation,

You may want to look around the room that you are sitting in.

Really see this place,

This day,

This practice session.

Landing in here and now.

Our own orientation is a superpower.

We can make or break moments with our own choice of focus.

Criticizing moments rarely makes them better.

Wishing that it was different,

That we felt differently,

That it looked differently,

Isn't gonna shift things.

So take another deep breath and praise this moment just as it is.

Give thanks for right now,

For just what is,

For this sitting practice.

Let this moment be as it is and see if that shifts something.

Lift this moment up,

Praise it,

Call it forth,

Come into it.

Ah,

Here I am,

Sitting,

Listening to an audio meditation.

Practicing being present.

This day is my life.

I do not know how many days I have.

Thank you.

Thank you,

Moment,

For being here with me,

Even with my mind waffling on,

Even with this body with aches and pains,

Even with this heart that sometimes hurts.

Ah,

This moment is my life.

This is my life.

Thank you.

Let this moment be just what it is.

Let whatever happens,

Happens.

Let the moment shift and transform in its own time.

Do not play it cool and pretend you don't care,

That your mindfulness practice is just another way to shut down feelings.

Let yourself sit here,

Human,

Wholehearted,

Befuddled by life,

Breathing your way through it,

Looking for a good way,

Fumbling,

Figuring it out.

Ah,

This moment is my life.

This practice is my prayer.

This body and heart is my home.

As we finish up,

Let's just take a few minutes quietly to marvel at this very moment,

At this day's practice,

To delight in just what is.

Let us sit quietly together and let this moment make us go,

Mm,

I'm alive.

Perfectly imperfect.

Let the moment come in close.

And so as you arise from your practice,

Give thanks,

Give gratitude,

Have hope.

Be grateful for what is,

For your passion to practice,

For the way that you can learn to let go,

To not have to make each moment extra special mindfulness,

But to delight in simply what is in the gifts and the grace of this day that we have been given.

Be astounded by everyday life.

Be in awe of just what is.

So thank yourself for your practice.

Thank this moment and this life for just what it is.

Bow your head in gratitude for the gift of life.

Thank you.

Thank you for your practice.

Thank you for your human heart.

Thank you for turning towards life.

I see the bravery in that.

I wish you well.

Drop us a comment,

Let us know how that was for you.

Wishing you goodness and wild,

Wild grace.
