And welcome to a purification meditation.
My name is Z.
Can you imagine what it would be like to walk through a world without anything holding you back?
In this practice,
We work on disrupting those negative mindsets and reestablishing our direction towards a life filled with freedom from fear and negativity.
When you're ready,
Go ahead and arrive to a comfortable meditation posture and begin to close down those eyes.
Let your mind sink from the surface of reality to a more subtle awareness.
Draw your attention to the sounds of your environment,
The sensations of your body settling.
Observe the grounding in your lower half,
Rooting into your seat.
A current sparks at the base of your spine,
Energizing each vertebrae,
Pulling the crown of the head up tall.
Let any tension fade from your limbs,
The belly button gently pulling in towards the spine,
Supporting your lower back.
You notice your shoulders begin to grow heavy with relaxation,
And ease coming into the jaw,
A softening around the area of your cheeks and eyes,
And a release of that space right between the eyebrows.
Let your breath bring more relaxation.
Slow down each inhale and exhale as if signaling to your body that it's time to go further inwards.
This is your encouragement to relax that tension that's in your mind.
This tension we find is the one that convinces you that reality is unchangeable.
This tension is the tension of doubt,
Distraction,
And expectation,
And just allow that to melt away,
And see if you can observe those behaviors without becoming them.
Gently bring that attention towards your breath.
Notice the physical sensation of cool air with each inhale,
And the warmth of each exhale.
Notice where you feel your breath the most in your body.
Is it at your nose,
At the back of your throat,
In your chest,
Or maybe in your diaphragm?
Take a few breaths to connect to this part in your body.
Now call to your mind that if it's true that how we program our thoughts produces our experience of reality,
Then we have a degree of agency in the way that we interact with our world.
Imagine if we trusted our agency to lead us towards a world that we wanted to experience,
A world where there's no more anxiety,
No more anger,
No more attachment or aversion,
Just a pure experience of equanimity.
Let the smiles of your friends and family arise in your mind.
Remember that each one of them has some form of negative mindset that they too are facing,
And so we include them in this wish to see a perfect world,
One without any pain or suffering.
As you navigate this practice today,
Keep those faces with you,
Showing them that it's possible to change your experience for the better.
Gently and compassionately identify an obstacle that you're currently struggling with.
This could be a habitual reaction of body,
Speech,
Or mind,
One that has resulted in pain or discomfort,
And when this obstacle comes to mind,
We must identify where this pain is really coming from.
Was there a time,
However subtle,
That you might have created the same feelings in another person's experience?
Whether it was doubt,
Frustration,
Sadness,
Whatever this obstacle is,
Notice a time,
Whether recent or maybe something you've been carrying with you for a long time,
And recall the details of how you were feeling in that moment.
It's important to remember that you only knew how to react with the skills that you had at the time,
But now you acknowledge that your response could have been different.
By drawing your attention to this,
You are opening to the opportunity to reprogram how you approach this situation in the future.
It's like updating the software that's no longer serving you with one that's wiser and more understanding.
The very fact that we are changeable,
Our thoughts are changeable,
Brings hope,
Hope that we can step into the limitless potential of our minds.
With this intelligent understanding of why this obstacle is no longer serving you and no longer serving those who have experienced this version of your mind,
You drum up the determination to stop engaging in this behavior for a reasonable amount of time.
There's motivation driven by compassion and wisdom that things can be different when we take responsibility for our world.
If it's possible to catch ourselves from reacting habitually,
Even just for 60 seconds,
We are no longer feeding into the old programming,
But instead giving our new operating system a chance to practice agency and move the mind towards goodness.
If it's true that anger is the cause for more anger and that joy creates the causes for more joy,
Then we can choose to take action through our thoughts,
Speech,
And action to strengthen our practice.
So bring to mind something that you can do in the form of a thought,
Words,
Or action that will help you transform your world by taking this meditation off the cushion and manifesting it in your reality.
Maybe it's being kinder to someone who annoys you or calling a parent you haven't spoken to in a while,
Maybe smiling at a stranger,
Anything that will combat our old programming and bring goodness into the world.
Change is possible,
But it takes time and practice.
When we were babies,
We first had to learn to walk before we could run.
Each time your mind moves towards acknowledging a mindset that is causing more pain for you and others,
Trust that it is possible to engage your agency,
To see that this world is changeable and that this change is always available to you.
We can consciously disengage with the negative thoughts and consciously engage with the positive ones.
Trust that when you train your mind to see through this lens of wisdom,
You are secretly giving every living being the opportunity to step into a higher version of themselves.
And if all things are changeable,
Then it means that you are capable of transforming your world into the most beautiful paradise you can imagine.
As we prepare to close this meditation,
Think of an affirmation that you can carry with you throughout your day,
A secret reminder of the work that you are doing to transform your world.
Begin to notice the temperature of the room around you,
Any sounds in your environment becoming more vibrant.
Add some gentle movement into your body,
Wiggling the fingers and toes.
And when you're ready,
Open your eyes and see the world transformed.
