Hello,
Beautiful souls.
Today we journey into the practice of Metta meditation.
Metta is a traditional Buddhist practice.
The term Metta comes from Pali,
A language spoken in northern India that is closely associated with Sanskrit.
It means positive energy and kindness towards others.
This practice is also commonly called loving kindness meditation.
We will cultivate our capacity for Metta by mentally repeating these phrases of love and kindness.
First for yourself,
Then for someone who you care for deeply,
Then for someone that you have difficulty with,
And lastly for all beings everywhere.
Make yourself comfortable in your seat or lying down and settle in to you.
Gently close your eyes,
Take a few breaths and allow your body to soften as we reconnect with our essence.
Take a deep breath in and out.
From the diaphragm,
Breathe in and out.
And one more breath in and out.
Now we will start with the focus on you on self-love.
Repeat the following phrases.
May I be happy.
May I be healthy in body,
Mind and spirit.
May I be safe and protected.
May I be peaceful and at ease.
Now think about someone who you care for deeply.
This could be a significant other,
A family member or loved one.
And repeat the following phrases,
Replacing the word you with their name.
May you be happy.
May you be healthy in body,
Mind and spirit.
May you be safe and protected.
May you be peaceful and at ease.
Now we want to think of someone that we have difficulty with.
Imagine them in your mind and repeat the following phrases,
Replacing the word you with their name.
May you be happy.
May you be healthy in body,
Mind and spirit.
May you be safe and protected.
May you be peaceful and at ease.
Let's just take a moment to notice how our body responds,
What we feel,
If there's any tension or any sense of comfort.
No judgment,
Only awareness.
We're just bringing awareness to how we are feeling in this moment.
And now we will send love and kindness to all beings everywhere.
So take a moment to imagine all of humanity,
The animals on land,
The animals in the sea and plant life and any other life that you may be aware of.
And repeat the following phrases.
May all beings be happy.
May all beings be healthy in body,
Mind and spirit.
May all beings be safe and protected.
May all beings be peaceful and at ease.
Take a few breaths here to just become aware of how your body is feeling.
And as you are ready,
Open your eyes.
Many blessings to each and every one of you.
Have a beautiful day.
