Welcome to this guided meditation to help cultivate equanimity,
A mental calmness and composure especially in a difficult situation.
So please sit in a comfortable position and relax.
Close your eyes and turn your attention to what is in your immediate surroundings.
The various sounds,
How your body feels wherever you are sitting.
Bring a gentle attention to your breath.
Take a deep breath in and when you're ready,
Breathe out letting any tension or anxiety release with the breath.
Take a moment to reflect upon the benefits of a balanced mind and the gift of bringing a peaceful heart to the world around you.
Now repeat these phrases silently to yourself.
Breathing in,
I calm my body.
Breathing out,
I calm my mind.
May I be balanced.
May I be at peace.
Remember that all created things rise and pass away.
Joys,
Sorrows,
Pleasant and painful events,
People,
Let yourself rest amidst all that is impermanent.
In silence,
Recite the following phrases to yourself.
May I learn to see the arising and passing of all things with equanimity.
May I be open and balanced and peaceful.
Now,
Bring to mind a loved one.
As this one comes to mind,
You can recognize your well wishes for them.
You can tune into your desire to see them happy,
To see them free from suffering and at ease with life.
Repeat silently to yourself.
May you learn to see the arising and passing of all things with equanimity.
May you be open and balanced and peaceful.
Imagine them surrounded with peace.
In equanimity practice,
We're cultivating a mind and heart that stay balanced and at ease with our surroundings.
We practice recognizing that although we may wish for this person's happiness,
We are not in control of their happiness.
Equanimity helps us to let go of the outcome and focus on our own state of being.
With the recognition that this person is in charge of their own actions,
You can offer some phrases of equanimity in your head.
In silence,
Recite the following phrases to yourself.
Regardless of my wishes for you,
Your happiness is not in my hands.
All beings are in charge of their own actions,
Their own karma.
May you do what needs to be done to find happiness.
You can let this person go from your mind and bring to mind somebody who you find difficult.
Despite how your mind reacts to this person,
You can no doubt recognize that this person wants to be happy as well.
Repeat to yourself.
May you learn to see the arising and passing of all things with equanimity.
May you be open and balanced and peaceful.
Imagine them surrounded with peace.
And again,
Offer these phrases of equanimity with the intention of recognizing that they are in charge of their own happiness and ease.
Wrote the following phrases to yourself.
Regardless of my wishes for you,
Your happiness is not in my hands.
All beings are in charge of their own actions,
Their own karma.
May you do what needs to be done to find happiness.
Imagine that all beings are heirs to their own karma and receive the fruits of their actions.
And although we can care deeply for people,
We cannot live their lives for them.
It takes deep wisdom to maintain compassion for those who are suffering.
While remembering that we cannot control their destiny.
May you learn to see the arising and passing of all things with equanimity.
May you be open and balanced and peaceful.
Namaste.
