This short guided practice invites you to connect with your own unique experience of regulation. In this practice there is no focus on breath. For some, the breath can feel charged or dysregulating, so in this practice we focus instead on felt sense, curiosity, and supportive self-inquiry. You’ll be guided to notice your current nervous system state and explore: What do I need? How do I know? Regulation doesn’t always look like stillness; it’s personal and situational. This practice helps you begin to recognise your own internal signals and what steadiness feels like for you. Photo by David Billings on Unsplash

Welcome to today's practice.

Thank you so much for joining me.

Before we begin,

I want to offer a reminder that regulation doesn't always look the same.

Sometimes we might experience it as a sense of calm and stillness.

At other times,

It might feel more lively,

More animated,

More expressive.

It might even change depending on who you're with,

The setting you're in,

Or what your body has learned over time.

This practice is an invitation to notice,

To gently connect with what's here in your body right now.

Bringing yourself into the most comfortable position for you in this moment.

Whether that be sitting or lying down,

Finding a way to feel a sense of support.

Allow your eyes to close if that feels good,

Or have a soft gaze.

Take a moment to feel the contact points between you,

The earth,

Or whatever surface is beneath you.

Allow yourself to feel held by gravity,

By the earth that rises up to meet you.

Notice whatever is present.

No need to change or have any expectations about what is there.

Just notice whatever is feelable in this moment,

Whatever is flowing.

Now gently bring your awareness inwards and ask yourself,

What am I noticing right now?

What subtle cues or signals am I noticing?

Is there a sense of stillness,

A sense of urgency,

Tension or openness?

Is there numbness,

Alertness,

Or something else?

There's no wrong or right answer.

It's just an invitation to begin that gentle inward inquiry.

Allow your body to do the talking and allow your mind to listen.

The next question I invite you to ask is,

What do I need in this moment?

Not what you think you should need,

But what does your body long for in this moment?

Maybe it's rest,

Maybe it is a little gentle movement or a stretch.

A sense of contact that you could offer yourself by placing a hand on your chest or your tummy.

A sense of stillness.

That whatever arises come gently up to the surface.

And then the final question,

How do I know?

How do I know what I need?

Tune into that sensation.

Feeling in your chest,

Your belly,

Your jaw or your limbs.

Allow your body to be your guide in this moment.

Maybe there's a subtle pull or a clear signal.

Just notice it without needing to fix anything.

Notice how that impulse of what you needed came through a clear signal or maybe a quieter one.

Allow yourself to just gently soften.

Allow yourself to rest into the support that you found for yourself at the beginning of this practice.

Offer yourself gratitude for showing up.

Notice again maybe there's somewhere that is drawing your attention and you'd like to place your hand there.

Maybe it's on your heart or shoulder,

Face,

Anywhere that feels supportive.

Remember regulating our nervous system isn't like a performance.

It's not always visible and it doesn't need to look a certain way.

This practice is simply about meeting yourself where you are with care and curiosity.

When you're ready,

Slowly start to bring your attention back into this moment.

Feel the support of the earth.

Maybe blinking your eyes open,

Taking in the room around you.

Then gently prepare to move into the rest of your day.

Thank you so much for joining me in today's practice.

Be well.
