Hello,

And welcome to Divine Etymologies.

My name is Amy,

And I have created this guided meditation for us to explore together the ways in which we access the Divine in our everyday lives,

Specifically through the contemplation of language,

Words,

And etymology,

Or the history of words.

Understanding the energy that words carry can enhance our meditative practice.

First we'll examine the etymology of today's chosen word,

And then a related meditation will follow.

Let's begin.

Today's word is manifestation.

When we hear this word in meditation,

It's usually in the context of creation.

To manifest something is to make it happen.

A person can find countless guided meditations on how to manifest your dreams,

Manifesting success and abundance,

And even how to manifest your perfect love.

Most of these types of meditations use the law of attraction to make things happen.

They teach us how to reframe our thoughts,

Beliefs,

And behavior,

And therefore our energy,

In order to attract things that have that same energy.

Manifesting through the law of attraction works.

What I offer in this meditation seeks only to build on that.

Examining the etymology of the word manifestation reveals a powerful new way of wrapping our minds around the idea.

More than creation,

More than attraction,

Manifestation allows us to perceive what already exists at our fingertips.

Coming to us from Latin through Old French,

In the 14th century,

To manifest meant to have something clearly revealed to the eye or the understanding,

Open to view or comprehension.

The word manifestation then emerged in the 15th century to mean an act of disclosing what is secret,

Obscure,

Or unseen.

In the 19th century,

The philosophy of spiritualism adapted the word to mean the phenomenon by which the presence of a spirit is supposed to be rendered perceptible.

Manifestation then has,

For many hundreds of years and in more than one context,

Meant simply to reveal something that already exists.

It's in the world.

It's within our grasp,

Right this moment.

We have only to perceive it.

From this perspective,

We can let go of the pressure of feeling like we have to create something material ourselves or create the conditions for the universe to provide it.

In essence,

It's already here.

If you can think it,

It already exists.

And now,

Let's meditate.

Divine Spirit,

You've already created everything.

Everything I could ever need or want.

It is all in your power.

Because I am of you,

From you,

With you,

It is also all in my power.

Everything I need already exists.

Everything I want already exists.

The natural world is full and rich and has everything it could ever want or need.

I am part of the natural world.

I am full and rich.

My body is full and rich,

And I feed every cell what it wants and needs.

My mind is full and rich,

And in every thought,

I create what I want and need.

My heart is full and rich,

And I choose to love as much as I want and need.

My life is full and rich,

And in every breath,

I have the life force I want and need.

May I remain open to believe in and perceive all that is around me.

May I perceive with my divine senses as well as my human senses.

This starts with a different way of knowing and relating.

All human beings use their physical senses to relate to the physical world.

But we can't see energy.

We can't hear it,

Taste it,

Smell it,

Or touch it.

But we can feel it somehow,

Intangibly,

Immaterially.

We know when the energy around us is good or bad.

It's real,

And it's there.

It's the same with anything I want to manifest.

It has energy.

It's real,

And it's here.

I'll close my eyes now.

I'll take a couple of deep breaths,

Focusing on the sensation of the air moving through my body.

This brings my focus inward and into this precise moment.

I now bring to my mind the idea of what I want to manifest.

When I think of it,

I give it energy.

I create it in my thought.

Now I take that thought and turn it around and around in my mind.

If it's a thing I'm thinking about,

I see it from every angle.

I turn it around and around.

I examine every side,

Top and bottom.

I sense it,

Feel it,

And know it.

If I'm thinking about something I want to happen,

I picture all the elements of the scene.

Where is it?

Who's there?

What's happening?

What's the feeling?

I imagine all the details.

I watch the scene unfold,

Not like it's a movie,

But like it's really happening.

And then I notice and watch,

Mesmerized,

As slowly and gradually a softly sparkling golden light begins to illuminate what I'm imagining.

The light is warm and pleasing,

Playful,

Joyful,

Generous.

It moves like water.

It begins at the edges and spreads toward the center,

Revealing and emphasizing every feature.

It grows and flows,

Slowly filling in my thought like colors in a coloring book.

I am looking at what I want to manifest,

Complete in every detail,

And completely bathed in this precious,

Special light.

This is divine light.

This is the same light with which the stars twinkle in the night sky.

This is the same light that fires the sun.

It's the same light that sparkles in my love's eyes.

This light is life.

My thought has life.

My thought has energy.

What I want exists.

What I need exists.

I perceive it with my divine senses.

I will soon perceive it with my human senses.

It's all before me,

For me,

And so it is.

I thank you for listening and,

Until next time,

Please remember,

Words carry energy so use them wisely.
