The Sheetali Breath Pranayama has a powerful cooling and calming effect on the nervous system. Use this technique anytime through out the day when you find yourself overwhelmed, upset, irritated or disturbed, or simply whenever you want to create a calm and balanced mood. Led by Nirali Lauren McCrea. The Integrative Amrit Methods of Yoga (I AM techniques) encompass a wide range of approaches developed to enhance your ability to live life more fully, harmoniously and effortlessly. Individually and together, these practical methods facilitate your ability to live in harmony with what you are experiencing moment to moment, while simultaneously helping foster resolution to life’s various challenges. The Integrative Amrit Methods are a means to integrate action and non-action. Through deliberate action in time and space, one moves into a time-less state of Being where all doing disappears and the doer and the action become one.

Transcript

Welcome to our guided experience of the sheetali pranayama,

The straw breath.

To begin the sheetali breath,

Bring yourself into a comfortable seated position with the spine tall or bring yourself to a comfortable position lying down.

Close your eyes.

Begin to bring all of your attention inwards.

Breathe in through your nose.

Fill your lungs fully and completely without straining.

And as you exhale,

Purse the lips and gently blow the exhaling breath through the mouth as if blowing through a small straw.

Let the exhalation be a long,

Steady,

Unbroken stream,

Emptying your lungs completely.

As you breathe in,

Feel the coolness and calmness spreading through the body.

As you breathe out,

Let each exhalation empty your mind of all thoughts,

Worry,

And tension.

Stay attentive to the flow of breath without any effort or struggle,

Allowing the breath to be calm and steady.

Now simply notice the pause at the top of the inhalation and at the bottom of the exhalation.

Each time your breath stops,

Empty your mind into the field of silence.

If the breath naturally stops for a longer period of time,

Allow it to happen but do not force.

As the breath slows,

The mind slows.

Release the breath now and return to normal.

Feel silence extending everywhere.

And enter an effortless state of being.

And just begin to notice how calm the breath is,

How relaxed the body is.

And how calm the mind is.

Know that you can easily enter here again and again.

As you're ready,

You can gradually open your eyes.

this practice helped me to notice the depth of my awareness through bath control. I found an infinite “knowing” without attachment by following along. grateful to have been reminded of this space of pure conscious awareness. 😊🙏🏾
