Hello and welcome to today's pain meditation.
Find a comfortable position for your body.
Take the time to really feel comfortable,
Even if it means wiggling around for a few moments,
Readjusting some pillows,
Or even changing spaces.
Once you're situated,
And if it's comfortable for you,
Begin to blink more and more slowly until your eyes come to a gentle close.
Today,
We will not try to make the pain go away.
Today,
We will surrender to the pain and learn to live alongside it.
First,
Let's locate the pain or discomfort.
Where in your body are you feeling the most pain?
Now,
Where else is there tension caused by this pain?
Notice the thoughts you have swirling in your mind in relation to the pain.
Is your mind fixated on the pain?
What kinds of words are you using when you think about the pain?
Gently let these questions go and with them,
Your thoughts.
One thought after another will enter your head and your only responsibility now is to notice they're there,
Then let them pass.
I will be quiet for a few minutes for you to engage fully in this practice.
Coming back to the sound of my voice,
Remind yourself that your thoughts are always passing.
We're going to connect to the pain emotionally now.
What are you feeling emotionally when you tap into the pain or discomfort in your body?
Maybe it's frustration,
Anger,
Sadness,
Fear.
Let yourself feel this emotion.
Have you ever allowed yourself to really feel this emotion before?
Let it consume you.
Let yourself cry or writhe or scream into a pillow if your body is asking for it.
Do what your body asks.
I will be quiet to let you indulge in this space.
Coming back to the sound of my voice now,
Remind yourself that feelings are fleeting.
They come and go just like thoughts.
Place one palm over your heart center.
Breathe deeply into your belly and let it rise up into your chest and then exhale.
As you inhale,
Attracting abundance and ease and as you exhale,
Releasing this emotion.
We'll do three more together.
Let's now come back to your comfortable position if you've moved away from it.
With your eyes gently shut,
Start to picture the place on your body that is in pain.
Now give this pain a shape and a color.
Picture this shape and color vividly in your mind's eye.
Let it grow and grow until it swallows your whole body up.
This is why you came to meditate,
Because you are swallowed by pain.
The shape begins to shrink.
The color begins to fade slowly,
Slowly until your pain is a small,
Colorless pinprick.
Can you imagine the shape disappearing altogether?
Remember,
Today we are not trying to get rid of the pain.
We are simply releasing resistance surrounding the pain.
We'll close with three mantras and an Aum.
Repeat after me.
I release the resistance surrounding my pain.
I deserve to be happy and healthy.
I allow healing to flow through my body.
Take a deep breath in and exhale all the way.
Inhale for Aum.
When you feel at peace,
Gently open your eyes and come back to the space around you.
I wish you all the best in your healing journey,
And I invite you to return to this meditation whenever you find yourself in pain.
Namaste.
