Welcome,
Wonderful human.
Through this meditation,
I realize that it may have been a little bit harder to arrive here today.
So thank you for showing up for yourself and offering yourself this time now to soften any anxious tendencies that may have been accumulating under the surface for quite some time.
I'm not going to pretend to know exactly what you're feeling right now,
But I want you to know that I am here as you journey through these feelings,
Through these thoughts and sensations that may be coming up for you.
And just know that I'm here and I care.
And so as best as you can,
Try to find a comfortable position,
A comfortable place to be.
Place one of your hands onto your chest and the other onto your belly.
Really embrace this tangible contact with your physical body.
Let this feeling ground you.
Let it centre you while you meet yourself as you are.
Now you may already be hyper aware of what you're feeling,
Of how you're feeling.
And in this moment all I invite you to do is purely focus on your exhale,
Breathing out as much as you can.
Maybe it's a sigh.
Take it as far out as you possibly can,
Which will in turn rebound and force you to take a deep breath in.
For these next few moments just take some time to focus purely on that,
On your exhale.
And that simple focus to your exhale may be where you stay attentive to.
For the next little while.
But if you have it in you to be guided by these next few offerings,
Then feel free to follow and tune in.
With your hands where they are placed,
Allow them to be a comfort for you as you encourage your body to expand as you inhale.
And then allow for your body to soften and contract as you exhale and release air out into the world around you.
Gently opening yourself up every inhale,
Softening yourself down every exhale.
And simply stay with this connection for these next few moments.
Trying to drop into a more relaxed layer of yourself with every breath.
And as you continue to focus your mind,
Your attention to your breathing,
Just lightly bring some awareness to what I'm about to share with you.
This is an analogy that has been really helpful for a lot of my students and patients,
Especially when they arrive to see me feeling somewhat anxious or overwhelmed or stressed.
And after a few moments to simply pause and reflect on the bigger picture of what is going on for that person,
It can become very clear very quickly that a lot of what is arising is an accumulation of many little things.
And over time these have turned into something bigger than what was first intended.
And so I give you this analogy of being underwater,
Perhaps visualizing this with me now.
When you are underwater and ahead of you,
You see this big ominous dark shape approaching you.
You immediately feel sensations that are quite heightened,
Your heart races,
The hairs stand up on the back of your neck.
You become fearful,
Frightened,
Unsure.
But as you come closer to this big ominous figure,
You actually realize that it is a big school of little fish.
And the closer and closer you get to them,
They begin to spread out and swim around you and past you.
And so if we were to take the time to individually look at each of those little fishies,
We would see that they aren't harmful.
Some of them are actually quite incredible.
But because there are a lot,
It's a lot for us to process,
And that can be overwhelming.
And sometimes that analogy,
That visual is quite helpful to take shape of what's going on for oneself.
And so feel free to take some time,
Maybe when you're feeling a little less heightened,
Maybe straight after this meditation,
Just to sit and acknowledge all of those little fishies in your life that are perhaps accumulating into that one big ominous fish.
And see if you can sit with them all and see them individually for what they truly are.
And then see how you feel.
And then perhaps reflect upon that.
And so I leave you with that analogy.
And I leave you with the invitation to continue to bring focus to your exhalation.
Take care,
Wonderful human.
Remember that I am here and I care.
Namaste.
