Welcome,
So I'm going to share a little practice that I like to do that is very simple but incredibly powerful and kind of magical too.
So all you need to do is go ahead and choose a colour,
Any colour you want,
Maybe your favourite colour,
Maybe the colour of something you want to call more of into your life.
Just allow that colour to come into your mind now.
And then you can choose to go on what's called a colour walk,
Or just move through your day as you normally would,
But here's the shift.
As you do that,
You start to notice everything that's in that colour.
So for example,
Say your colour was yellow,
You begin to notice the yellow of a flower or the yellow of a passing sign or the yellow of the sunlight filtering through your window.
And suddenly it's like your whole world lights up,
So things that you would normally walk past,
They start to appear like little gifts,
Kind of like the universe is leaving you breadcrumbs.
What I love about this practice is that it pulls you out of your mind and back into the here and now.
It's simple,
But a beautiful way to practice mindfulness without having to sit still or try to be present.
You just look,
You observe,
You notice,
And let yourself become curious again.
And here's the amazing part,
So there's some science behind this,
In your brain,
The reticular activating system,
Or RAS for short,
Is like your brain's filter.
So right now there are millions of pieces of information all around you,
Sounds,
Colours,
Sensations,
But your brain filters out what it thinks isn't important.
But when you decide,
I'm going to look for yellow,
Or I'm going to notice blue,
Your RAS starts to tune in and it begins to highlight and bring forward what matches that focus.
And so you start seeing things that you didn't notice before.
And isn't that kind of beautiful?
Because the same way you start seeing more of that colour,
You can train your mind to see more beauty,
More kindness,
More opportunities,
Just by choosing to focus there.
Also don't be surprised if you start to see synchronicities or little signs and symbols that seem perfectly timed.
Maybe you chose green and suddenly you see a message on a green billboard that feels like it was just written for you.
Or you choose pink and pass by a stranger with pink flowers who smiles at you.
These little moments remind you that life is always speaking to you,
Just sometimes we don't notice it.
