This practice is created to support you as you take that first step towards something you have been postponing.
Before we begin,
I would love to share the story that inspired this meditation.
Every morning on my way back from the gym,
I pass by a nursing facility where I see an elderly lady walking with her walker on the sidewalk.
She never misses a day,
No matter if it is cold,
Hot,
Or even raining.
I often think about all the excuses she could have had to not take that walk.
I am tired,
It's too cold,
I can barely walk.
Whether she has those thoughts or not,
She shows up every day,
One step at a time.
For her,
Those morning walks may be nothing more than part of her routine.
For me,
They are an inspiration,
A reminder of what it looks like to give your best no matter what.
Now,
With curiosity,
Think about what has been holding you back from taking action,
From making that change,
Or from moving toward that dream.
And know that if this woman can show up for herself every day,
So can you.
Let's get the momentum going with this meditation.
Adopt a comfortable position,
Allowing your body to relax.
Gently,
Close your eyes.
Take a few moments to be fully present by observing your breath.
Take a deep breath in,
And a slow breath out.
With each breath,
Let yourself settle just a tiny bit more,
Relaxing deeper and deeper.
Now,
Think about where in your life you are not showing up.
Reflect on the thoughts or maybe excuses that have stopped you from showing up.
Is it that you don't have time?
That you are not ready?
That you might fail?
Notice what comes up.
Observe the thoughts without judgment.
See them simply for what they are.
Thoughts.
They are neither good nor bad.
They are just what your mind uses to keep you safe.
And that's okay.
You have the power to let these thoughts go.
To reconnect with the part of you that deeply longs to take that first step.
The part of you that has helped you show up so many times before.
The part that is quietly waiting for your permission to begin.
Feel the energy of this part.
Ready to move.
Ready to try.
Ready to show up even with fear.
Notice if there are any sensations present in the body.
Maybe a change in temperature.
Maybe energy flowing.
Or maybe you notice the impulse to move.
Welcome whatever is present.
Using the power of this energy visualize yourself taking that first step with courage and determination.
Just like that lady taking her daily walk.
You don't need perfection.
All you need is your willingness to take one step followed by another.
Take one deep breath in and a slow breath out.
Gently bring your attention back to the space you are in.
And when you are ready open your eyes.
It is time.
Take that step.
