Regain Your Rhythm: Step 2 To Heal Life Challenges & Changes
by Aimee Orta
Once you've accessed your calm despite life circumstances beyond your control, the next step is to reconnect within so you can function and feel like your authentic self again. Using your body's natural rhythms, the same biology that innately created you from conception, you will not just relax but also self-regulate and regain your flow state with this Craniosacral Therapy-inspired healing exercise ... even if you're not sure you've ever felt connected with your authentic self before.
Transcript
Welcome back to your three-part healing meditation for life changes.
In the first meditation,
You practiced a craniosacral therapy settling to decompress so you're not feeling like a mess,
And access your calm so you can be present in the moment.
In this second meditation,
You'll practice connecting with your body's natural rhythms to go beyond relaxation to self-regulation,
So you can adjust,
Acclimate,
And feel in flow with your new normal.
We'll start with a settling so you don't need to be settled right now,
But it's best that you've been able to find stillness with the first healing meditation or a different meditation in the recent past,
Before you begin practicing this healing rhythm meditation.
Let's begin.
You may already have your eyes closed,
But if not,
That's okay.
This first part of the meditation is formless settling,
Allowing your nervous system,
The space to decompress and dissipate any stimuli it has recently picked up or been processing.
You might feel the need to open your eyes again or fidget around,
And that's okay.
We're here to hold safe space for your nervous system.
There's a time to hold therapeutic intervention,
And there's a time to allow it,
Allowing the body to move and fidget as it needs.
Eventually,
You'll be able to keep your eyes closed and draw your awareness inward,
Probably body prompting you to take a nice deep breath as you shift into a different brain state.
And as your body releases tension and holding,
Trying to shift.
Allow yourself as many deep noisy breaths as you need,
Exhaling all the air out of your mouth without controlling it with your lips or your cheeks,
Letting the sound come from the back of your throat.
As you begin to be still and not take in any stimuli,
Your brain and your nervous system will settle down as it finishes processing the backlog,
If you will,
Of information that it was taking in before you settled down,
Allowing another breath or two before we shift into a structured settling.
We're going to shift directly into decompressing in space.
Now that you've practiced the first healing meditation so much,
It becomes second nature to you.
To allow your awareness to float from your physical body effortlessly through the layers,
Out towards the horizon,
Gently and safely slipping through the atmosphere out into space,
To the familiar space of stillness as you gently orbit the earth,
That being the only gravity that holds on to your body.
Otherwise,
You're weightless,
Floating out in space,
Noticing your body move,
Bend,
Twist slowly,
As it goes into tension patterns so that it may release them.
Your body innately knows what to do.
Your body is the practitioner.
You are simply here to hold space for it and listen and observe.
There is no doing.
There is no shifting right now.
We are here to listen and be guided to the same innate brilliance that created all of us from conception.
If our DNA knew how to create all of us from nothing,
It certainly is capable of a little bit of repair and modifications.
And we're here to hold space for that.
Allowing yourself to float in space with a few more breaths to allow the body to release whatever is ready to release.
Whatever isn't ready to release is for another time and a different meditation.
Right here and right now,
We're just working with what is ready.
What you want to let go of but don't know how physically or mentally or emotionally.
One last awareness,
Noticing how all the cells of our body are spreading out and enjoying the decompression and the stretch.
As it releases anything that held them bound together in a way that was not the original form.
We'll begin bringing our awareness to our craniosacral rhythm.
Allowing those nice noisy deep breaths as you bring your awareness back towards your body,
All the way from out in space.
Finding yourself here in the present moment where you're sitting,
Standing or lying down.
Allowing those deep breaths to continue as you continue to release and drop deeper into stillness.
As you bring your awareness to your skin,
Go into the center of your body and use your imagination to sense your brain and your spinal cord.
The center of that nervous system.
And just notice the brain and the spinal cord floating in its cerebral spinal fluid.
There's a thicker,
Fabric-y,
Multi-layered liner inside your skull and down your spine called the Dural tube.
Just picture that liner and it keeps all of your cranial fluid around the brain and the spinal cord.
Doing the best you can to connect with these structures,
But not forcing it.
Simply with curious awareness and imagination.
If it's your first time,
It's not abnormal to feel distracted or struggling to connect with it.
The more you practice,
The easier it gets.
And you may notice your body continues to take those nice deep breaths as you surrender deeper.
Just when you thought you'd surrendered really deeply,
Your body surrenders some more as we go deeper into the layers.
When you are practicing this work,
You might notice signs of tissue release beyond the deep breaths.
You may have experienced it in other meditations,
Other healings,
And craniosacral treatments,
Or as you do deeper,
Longer craniosacral meditations,
You'll likely experience them.
You'll feel waves of emotion,
Sometimes it's tears.
Sometimes it can even be laughter.
Often it's stomach gurgling.
It's all the fascia and digestion soften and allow your body to shift into nice digestive function.
As the tissue releases,
You might feel heat.
It's commonly felt in hands or feet,
But it can be all over the body.
Sometimes it can feel like a hot flash,
Or if you're in that stage of life,
It can feel like it's bringing on hot flashes.
These are simply tissue releases.
I understand that those hot flashes might not be the most pleasant,
But it's supporting the body and finding balance.
And as tissue releases,
You also might feel a little twitching or a spasming or thumping in connective tissue or muscle.
As the tension releases,
The message from the neural circuitry that told the tissue to contract,
Stop sending the message.
When it's been sending the message consistently for so long you didn't even know the tension was happening,
You'll feel that twitching release,
Almost like your tissue is confused to not be clenching.
Again,
Bring your awareness back to the brain and the spinal cord.
If you drifted away during that explanation,
Finding the brain and the spinal cord floating nicely in cerebral spinal fluid,
Noticing if it might be just a little bit easier to connect with it than it was the first time.
And if your awareness drifted away,
Just gently invite it back.
Again,
Finding the brain and the spinal cord floating in the cerebral spinal fluid.
This dance between the form,
The awareness and drifting off into formlessness,
Distraction and unconscious processing is what makes the work so productive.
We'll talk about that more in the next meditation.
For now,
Don't judge yourself if you drift off into distraction.
That's a success,
Not a failure.
Just gently invite yourself back.
Find the brain and the spinal cord again,
Floating,
Bathing in that cranial fluid.
And when you're able to hold a sustained awareness,
A gentle observation on that fluid,
See if you can notice a rhythm,
A rhythm of the fluid filling up around the brain and the spinal cord and then absorbing.
It happens every three to five seconds.
Filling.
And then the pressure goes down.
The cranial fluid is actually always being absorbed.
It's being absorbed constantly by the brain and the spinal cord.
But it only intermittently fills up in the space around the brain and the spinal cord,
Which causes that rhythm.
And just sit with patient curiosity and see if in your imagination,
You can notice any feeling.
If you drift away,
Simply invite your awareness back to the brain and the spinal cord and the fluid rhythm.
And if you can't notice the rhythm,
That's perfectly fine.
It takes practitioners a long time sometimes to be able to feel this and notice it.
Don't expect yourself to get it on the very first try.
Simply use curiosity,
Awareness and observation,
Almost like you're waiting for the cranial rhythm to talk to you,
To reveal itself,
To show itself.
And as you patiently wait in stillness,
Allowing yourself to take those deep breaths and surrender.
It's this cranio sacral rhythm,
Two other rhythms and the principles of embryology,
Which is the science of how we developed as embryos that make up the foundations of biodynamic cranio sacral work.
We use these bodies natural rhythms,
The original frequencies that created us from conception to restore our original health.
And now take a moment to let your nervous system know you're going to be wrapping up this rendezvous with your cranial fluid.
And give it a last few moments to finish up whatever it needs to finish up.
Always giving your nervous system a warning and some space to transition and shift.
Now begin to bring your awareness back to your body as it sits in the room or the space in the present moment.
I want you to begin seeing the week ahead.
Connecting with what's to come,
What needs to be done.
Gently allowing your nervous system to reorientate to the present moment.
We never want to come out of formlessness and jump right into functioning in the present moment.
Always giving ourselves the opportunity to transition back.
And so now we're going to just look at either our day ahead.
Or a restful night's sleep,
Whatever is in your near future.
We're going to watch it unfold in the way that we'd love to see it unfold.
Aligning to what we'd like to see.
And allowing deep breaths.
Still as we continue to process.
And give yourself the next minute or two to begin to open your eyes and come back to the current moment.
You'll want to continue to practice this healing meditation or other more in depth body rhythm meditations until you feel self regulated.
This means you're not just relaxed,
But you're able to function with calm clarity and feel in flow in everyday life.
Then when you're ready,
You can move on to the third healing meditation,
Where you'll begin a self healing practice using the craniosacral therapy zones.
This mind body processing helps you to know yourself so well that you can clearly hear your intuition and inner wisdom.
With these skills,
You can see how to transform every struggle and stress into an opportunity for authenticity,
Personal growth and refinement of your life path.
Until next time,
Stay awesome.
