In this walking meditation, we use our feet to connect to the earth, whether we are walking at home or in nature. Even though walking might be something that we do on a daily basis, we rarely walk mindfully and slowly. This meditation will help you feel grounded, centered, and at one with yourself and the universe.

Hello and welcome to this walking meditation.

You're more than welcome to do this meditation at home,

Maybe than being barefoot and using some sort of yoga mat or carpet to use as a guide where you can walk.

Or maybe you'd like to practice this in nature,

Maybe in a forest or on the beach.

And you can do this meditation wherever you'd like.

And we're going to start this meditation and standing before we start walking.

And simply feeling your feet connected to the ground.

Feeling your legs,

Feeling the rest of the body,

Feeling the rest of the body supported and connected to the ground by your feet.

And maybe relaxing the shoulders and allowing the face to be soft here.

Perhaps you want to inhale through the nose and exhale through the mouth.

Just a few more breaths like this to release any tension that might still be there from the day or anything that lies behind you.

And then I invite you to bring your attention back into your feet and really feeling into every corner of your feet,

The big toe all the way along to your little toes.

And the corners of your feet all the way towards the heel and back along the arches,

All the way across the sole of your foot.

Staying with your awareness here in your feet,

Gifting your feet a few breaths in silence.

And then once you feel ready and know that this can take as long as you want it to take,

You're slowly going to start to walk.

And then you're going to feel the energy and the energy of your body and the energy of your body and you're slowly going to start to walk,

Shifting the weight into one foot as you gently lift the other foot and place it a little bit in front of you,

Heel first,

Rolling all the way along the foot until that foot is flat on the ground.

Shifting the weight into that foot as you start to lift your back foot now and then placing heel first,

Your foot all the way down.

And imagining that you're walking in slow motion,

Really feeling any sensation as you're walking here.

You might want to close your eyes as you're walking,

Using the outlines of your mat or your carpet as a guideline,

Or perhaps you want to keep your eyes soft and maybe the gaze turned towards the feet.

If you're on a yoga mat there might be a point where you want to return,

Where you can either turn around gently and then walk back where you started,

Or you can also walk backwards and maintain that same level of awareness,

Mindfulness and curiosity for walking backwards.

And keep on walking,

Maintaining this mindful walking,

As your breath is just free and flowing,

Making sure that you're not tensing anywhere else in the body,

And that you are in charge of your pace,

And if it's too slow then you're more than welcome to pick up the pace mindfully.

And for a few moments I will leave you to walk just by yourself,

But know that I'm still here,

I'm still in this meditation together.

And if there was a starting point for you,

I invite you to gradually make your way back there,

And slowly bringing your walking meditation to a halt,

Perhaps placing your hands on your body,

Or maybe giving yourself a hug or a squeeze,

Thanking your feet and your legs for this walking meditation,

And also thanking them for all the work that they've been doing.

And when you're ready,

Perhaps opening your eyes,

Orienting in your room or wherever you are,

Coming back right here,

Right now,

Gifting yourself a last conscious breath as you're standing here.

Thank you for meditating with me today.

Namaste.
