Hope is inherent to every living thing. We all have that. But for us humans, circumstances throughout our lives might have blocked the access to our inner source of hope. Although life hasn’t been easy on me sometimes, I’m an optimist and I really believe we all have the power to reconnect to this well for it is the driving force to keep us moving forward and evolving. At the end of the talk, I will give you a very simple (but powerful) exercise that you can practice every day.

Hello,

My name is Heidi Emmesicker.

Today we have a special topic.

Someone asked me to make a talk on hope.

I like the challenge.

I'm an optimist and to me it comes more easily maybe as to some others or even natural.

So when I was contemplating on hope I asked myself where does hope start?

Where is the beginning of hope?

So I noticed yes,

Hope is here from the beginning.

From the beginning of creation,

From the beginning when you were a little child,

You felt the hope that one day you will be able to walk.

You felt the hope that one day you will be able to eat the food that your parents eat already.

And you felt hope that one day you will be able to decide everything for yourself.

So hope is actually something very positive,

Very good.

It's a driving force to evolve your being and to evolve the whole universe forward.

So it's a seed within you that has always been there from the beginning that makes you walk,

That makes you go,

That makes you change situation and move mountains.

And also in the nature,

If we look at plants for instance,

When I see a plant or a little grass piercing through concrete or a tree,

How a tree can grow through a net of steel,

How it can make and find its way into a space where it can evolve.

So basically hope is a movement,

A movement from a place where something,

I am now or you are now or a plant is now or an animal is now into an open space,

Into a space where we can expand and develop,

Where the circumstances are better.

So hope is an idea that if I grow in this direction,

If I move myself into that direction,

That over there or in that field my circumstances will be better.

Hope is a deep knowing that there is space to grow and unfold.

That there is a movement and change which will provide new possibility for better.

So what is in the way of this deep hope that we all have?

What blocks us that we cannot access that hope?

So just take a moment to ask yourself this,

Maybe close your eyes.

What hinders you to access your hope,

To move into a space of hope?

Good.

Most often fear of course is involved or feeling that powerlessness towards certain circumstances.

So this fear or this powerlessness that we feel,

What can we do with them?

What can we do with that?

Is there any technique or any exercise we can remove it?

We can move into that space of hope.

We can again access our power of hope.

So the first idea I had is really to connect with yourself as a little person,

As a little being when hope was no problem for you.

So there were times in your life where hope was no problem for you.

So can you find moments to go back to these areas,

To these places,

To these moments in the family where you would kind of like open your heart fully and just be completely yourself and feel that,

Yes I can conquer the world,

Yes I will be able to do that.

And maybe over time some people have discouraged you or even blocked your way.

And so again we go to these places of fear and feeling powerlessness.

The deep truth is that you have something very powerful within you.

Two things are very powerful.

It's the power of the mind and it's the power of the heart.

With both of them you can change worlds.

Within your heart there is a natural hope,

There is a natural joy,

There is natural happiness.

Most of the time we cover this natural reservoir of joy,

Happiness and hope with our worries,

With our to-do lists,

With the news we watch,

With the newspaper we read,

With a lot of bad news.

And that's where the power of the mind kicks in.

So the mind can follow this external sensation,

This external information and then the reservoir of hope in your heart gets covered up,

Gets very dull because you don't feel the access anymore.

You feel that there is nothing you can draw from.

So one good technique I found out for myself as an optimist is that you learn to train your mind,

You learn to direct your mind,

You learn to turn around.

Turning around doesn't mean to look away but turning around means for instance when it's a sunny day you look towards the blue sky,

You look towards the sun.

When you turn away from the sun you create a shadow of your own being.

If you look at this shadow you might feel powerless.

If you look towards the sun you feel the energy of the sun and start to feel powerful.

The power of the mind and the work of the mind is so that you learn to filter your thoughts.

And in filtering your thoughts you will find out there are good thoughts,

There are useful thoughts,

There are just noise,

Unuseful thoughts,

There are negative thoughts.

And out of this immense field of thoughts you have throughout the day you have to filter the good ones and you have to focus on the good ones.

And this focusing on the good thoughts and the good intention is like pivoting around towards the sun,

Seeing the blue sky.

So you focus on what is creating joy in your life,

What is creating space in your life,

Space of moving into it.

Not focusing on what is suppressing you or what is suppressing a whole society but focusing on what is moving your heart,

What is moving your joy,

What creates satisfaction in your work so that eventually your work doesn't need to be called work but what you do,

What you create is creation,

Is creating hope for yourself,

Creating joy for yourself,

Creating happiness for yourself and your family.

So train your mind every day to really focus on what brings you joy and hope.

And for that I give you a little exercise.

Every evening write down five things that made you happy throughout the day,

That can be very little things,

That touched your heart in some way either with creating hope or joy or love.

Write it down or another way is to tell it to your partner or to your children.

Take a round in your family at the dinner table that everyone can tell five things which they enjoyed throughout the day which created joy for them.

So that will generate this hope and it also will help you to really push through or pierce through again to that reservoir of hope within your heart,

Stored in all of our hearts because it's the essence,

It's the very essence of creation.

There is no deeper power than hope,

Joy and love to create.

There's no deeper driving force than hope.

So this exercise I just gave you is also to awaken the power of the heart and access the quality the heart carries with it.

So I was talking about the qualities already a little bit.

There is joy,

There is hope and there is love.

So when we pierce through these layers and arrive in our heart through directing and consciously directing the mind and choosing what we think and what we don't want to think,

Then you can use the biggest power of your being which is the heart.

And with the heart you can actually create wonders,

You can move mountains.

So in your heart is the reservoir of hope and it never ceases,

It is always there.

You just have to go back and visit it over and over again.

Go deep within your heart,

Activate this power in your heart to get every day this portion of hope you need for this day and your life.

Thank you very much for listening and we will meet again soon.
