Just letting your breath pass quietly through your nostrils.
In the nose,
Out the nose,
Or in the nose,
Out the mouth.
And to just for a few moments be so simple,
So ordinary,
So relaxed where you're not even trying in any way to meditate.
You may close your eyes,
But all you're doing is breathing.
That's it.
If your mind is going,
Let it go.
If your mind isn't going,
Let it be.
In other words,
Just let it be.
Just become attuned and aware of the sensation of your breathing.
And let that attunement,
That awareness of breathing.
Let it move you into a sensitivity where your body is sensitive,
Your mind is sensitive,
Your nervous system is sensitive.
By sensitive,
I don't mean anything like emotional or sentimental.
Sensitive in that you are highly alert.
And what might be a slight disturbance in your life would now be a much greater disturbance due to your sensitivity.
So just breathe.
And on your breath,
Simply remember.
Simply remember.
Remember your face,
Remember your name.
That is to say that on your breath,
You allow yourself to pass beyond or through your ordinary assumptions about being a body,
Male or female,
About being old or young,
Or any of the characteristics that go with your body,
Personality,
Gender,
Whatever,
Whatever you consider your makeup.
But you might remember here the presence of consciousness,
The presence of awareness,
The presence of a being that is not yet named or formed.
Don't give this to your mind to do.
It's not something to think about.
But rather to feel and beyond feeling to know.
So you step into meditation,
You step into the temple,
And it's an invitation to leave your clothing,
Your ideas,
Your concepts,
Your ordinary consciousness on the outside of the door.
To step into the sanctuary of your being where sometimes it's quiet,
Sometimes it's colorful,
Sometimes it's musical.
But stepping inward to that location where nothing else can reach.
Something that this is not for your mind to make sense of,
You can simply retire your mind.
Let your heart do this.
Let your heart do this.
If you've forgotten that you have a heart,
Remember that you have a heart.
Remember there's a passion in you,
A love in you,
A compassion in you,
A warmth,
A radiance,
A brightness.
However dim it may seem,
It's still there.
So breathe into it and let it flourish.
Let it flower.
Let it flourish.
Maybe you come to meditation and none of this is happening.
You feel bored.
Your mind is busy.
You feel restless.
Don't fight these experiences.
Don't resist them.
Just let them happen.
They'll pass.
Just let them happen.
You get sleepy,
Don't worry about it.
It will pass.
Breathe into your heart.
Breathing into your heart until you feel a sensitivity there,
A tenderness,
A brightness,
A warmth,
Perhaps a little grief,
A joy that has a little touch of sadness.
Breathing into your heart.
Breathing into your heart.
If you begin treating meditation like work,
Stop.
This is play.
This is discovery.
Breathing into your heart.
And just bathing your heart in silence.
Use your breath for that.
Use your breath to bathe your heart in silence.
Breathing into your heart.
Breathing into your heart.
Breathing into your heart.
If you find yourself preoccupied with something,
A thought,
Ask yourself,
What is it that you love?
If this is really what you care to be devoted to.
Instead,
Give your attention to this bathing continuously.
Breathing not to clean but to nourish.
Allowing your heart to become more and more sensitive.
Breathing into your heart.
When you're drawn away from your heart,
Simply return.
No guilt,
No shaming,
No reprimand.
Just return.
Breathing into your heart.
Breathing into your heart.
Breathing into your heart.
Within your sensitive and open heart,
You're able to just adore whatever comes,
Whatever arises in you,
It's just adored.
It's welcomed.
It's embraced.
It's lubricated.
