What better way to restore than by unwinding mindfully? The intention of this mindfulness meditation practice is to simply be. Lean into the qualities of being (yin) - that is, doing nothing. Relax, unwind, and enjoy the time out. Best served in the evening but can be done anytime you seek deep rest. Suitable for those with some meditation experience as long silences between cues are offered for a deeper experience. Music: Chris Collins

Hello and welcome to your moment of yin in the yang of your week.

In this practice you will be invited to embody the qualities of yin,

That being rest,

Nurturing,

Softness,

As a complement to the yang of your week,

Which is largely doing,

Striving,

Very energy demanding.

So more importantly,

This practice invites you to simply be.

And settling in now into your preferred position,

Beginning to close down your eyes as best as you can,

Using your breath to soften the body.

Drawing in relaxation on the in-breath,

And releasing tension,

Relaxing the muscles on the out-breath.

Drawing in relaxation on the in-breath,

And releasing tension,

Relaxing the muscles on the out-breath.

And gently reminding yourself that you've been productive all week,

All day.

You've tended to the tasks,

Quite possibly approached the week from a place of logic,

Control,

Willpower,

Maybe strive-drive state.

So giving yourself permission to take this time and lean into yin.

And rather than anchoring yourself in any one particular object or breath,

Considering opening up,

Witnessing the thoughts,

The sensations,

Sounds as they arise.

Not needing to attach,

And simply letting them pass through.

Finding harmony,

And re-establishing balance or equanimity by simply doing nothing at all.

You might like to kindly ask that inner,

Controlling,

Striving self to take a break.

Reminding yourself to step into the gentle waters and bathe in yin.

Taking the time to observe the transient nature of your mind,

Knowing there's nothing you need to do with what arises.

You've done enough,

And everything else can wait.

This is your time to restore,

Nurture,

And just be.

When the mind does its thing,

Gets caught in thought-story,

Gently guiding it back.

Reminding yourself that you don't need to earn rest,

It is your right,

And that there really is nothing else that you ought to be doing.

Drawing in relaxation on the in-breath,

And releasing tension,

Relaxing the muscles on the out-breath.

Reminding yourself that you don't need to earn rest,

It is your right.

Becoming aware of what draws you away,

And find softness and comfort in the warmth of your breath.

Nowhere to be,

Nothing to do,

This is your time to unwind.

Nowhere to be,

Nothing to do,

This is your time to unwind.

Slowing down and coming back to breath,

Creating some space between the thoughts,

Inviting the body to relax,

Soften,

As you continue to unwind,

And basking in these remaining moments to yourself.

Beginning to deepen your breath,

And bringing some gentle movement into your body.

Maybe a stretch up overhead,

Or if you're lying down,

Even drawing the knees in towards the chest,

And giving yourself a good squeeze.

And as you settle back down,

Just take these final moments to silently repeat to yourself,

I don't need to earn rest,

It is my right.

And with that,

Have a beautiful day or evening ahead,

Until next time,

Take great care.
