This is a meditation to connect you with a feeling of essential support as you wait for a medical appointment or procedure.
You can listen using headphones,
And once it becomes familiar,
You can also work with it on your own.
We'll begin by taking note of the support that's available to you in this moment,
Starting simply with the support of the floor underneath the feet.
Taking a moment to connect with the feeling of the feet on the floor,
The steadiness of the feet resting on the floor.
If you're sitting down,
Bring your attention to the sit bones,
Supported by the seat of the chair,
And the spine,
Supported by the back of the chair.
If you're lying down,
Feel the support of the bed underneath the legs and hips,
The back and the shoulders,
The back of the head.
Whether you're sitting or lying down,
See what it would be like to soften into the support beneath you,
Tuning your attention to the stability and support available to your body in this moment.
Now shift your focus to the support that's available within the breath,
This most loyal companion that is the breath.
You might place one hand on your low belly,
Or perhaps over your heart,
Tuning your attention to the feeling of the movement of the breath,
Feeling the steady rise and fall of the breath,
Flowing in and flowing out.
For a moment,
Get curious about the breath,
Noticing its qualities.
Perhaps it's a bit smooth or a bit shaky.
Maybe it's cool or warm,
Shallow or deep.
However the breath is moving in this moment,
See if you can tune to the reliable,
Steady support offered by the breath,
Feeling the breath flow in,
Feeling the breath flow out,
Anchoring your attention in the steadiness of breath.
And now while staying connected to the steady support of the breath,
We'll offer these three intentions.
May I be open and receptive to all of the support that's available to me in this moment.
May I communicate my needs and experiences with clarity and self-compassion.
And may I receive from this practitioner or procedure the full intention for my care and healing.
