Welcome to this yoga nidra practice for relaxed inner wisdom.
This yoga nidra practice will bring your physical body into a deep state of relaxation.
Yoga nidra straddles wakefulness and sleep.
And as you linger between the two during this practice,
You will be able to bridge your conscious mind with your unconscious mind.
Here you can tap into your innate and powerful inner wisdom and knowing.
You can connect with spiritual guides in this state as well.
But remember that nothing is supposed to happen in this yoga nidra practice.
And nothing is not supposed to happen.
As we go through this practice,
All you have to do is welcome whatever comes up.
Recognize it for what it is.
A thought,
An emotion,
A physical sensation.
And simply witness it.
So lie on the floor and make sure you're warm.
Cover your eyes with an eye mask if you can.
And as you settle into your practice,
I invite you to let go of any tension that you're carrying.
Be that physically,
Emotionally or mentally.
Let it all out of your body by taking a few deep breaths in and long sighs from your mouth.
See if you can relax your body even 10% more.
In yoga nidra,
It's normal to fall asleep.
And even though we want to avoid falling asleep in this practice,
If you do,
Don't worry.
The part of you that I'm speaking to is still listening,
Even if you zone out or fall asleep.
Now I invite you to notice what you're most aware of in your physical body at this moment.
Which part of your body is pulling your awareness to it the strongest right now?
Remember nothing is good or bad.
It just is what it is.
It's just a physical sensation.
Now bring your awareness somewhere external.
Maybe something you can hear or smell from your environment.
Or maybe focus on the sound of my voice.
I'm speaking for the sake of speaking.
Which external factor is pulling your awareness to it the strongest?
And remember it's not good or bad,
Right or wrong.
It just is what it is.
Now bring your awareness back to that physical sensation in your body.
Feel it for what it is.
And again bring your awareness back to that external factor in your environment.
The thing that's pulling your awareness the strongest.
And without thinking about it too much,
Bring your awareness to both the physical sensation in your body and that external factor at the same time.
You are aware of both at the same time.
You are aware of the physical sensation and the external factor.
Now I invite you to create your sankalpa,
Your seed of intention for this yoga nidra practice.
Something that is positive,
That is based in the present and that speaks to your inner yes.
It doesn't have to be something that's true now.
But speak in such a way that your brain understands that it will become truth.
So for example you could say,
I am on the road to and fill in the blank.
Or I have everything inside of me that I need to and fill in the blank.
Or the universe is ready to bless me with.
And fill in the blank.
Repeat your sankalpa in your mind now.
That positive statement of truth.
Now we're going to go into your inner sanctuary.
That place where you feel comfortable and safe and content.
This can be a real place or an imagined place.
Go to your inner sanctuary now.
Is your sanctuary inside or outside?
Are you alone or are you with other people or maybe animals?
What can you see in your sanctuary?
Don't see those objects as if you're seeing them on a screen.
But see them through your own eyes.
Pick some colours from your sanctuary and allow those colours to become vivid in your eyes right now.
What kind of shapes or textures are around you?
What can you smell in your sanctuary?
Smell that smell right now with your nose.
Are there any tastes associated with your sanctuary?
And if there are,
Feel that taste on your tongue right now.
Feel yourself as though you're really in your sanctuary right now.
Now we will begin to layer our awareness deeper.
Beginning by focusing our awareness on the physical body.
You don't have to do anything about it.
But just bring your awareness to the different parts of your body as I mention them.
Remember nothing is right or wrong,
Good or bad.
They just are what they are.
So begin by bringing your awareness to the sensation of mouth.
What does mouth feel like?
Feel the sensation of your tongue,
Your teeth,
Your lips.
Now feel the sensation of your entire jaw.
Feel the sensation of nose.
Feel the sensation of eyes.
Noticing how your eyes feel heavy in their sockets.
Feel the sensation of forehead and cheeks.
The entire sensation of face.
Bring your awareness to the crown of your head.
The back of your head.
Now feel the sensation of your entire head.
As if your head were just one ball of energy.
Feel the sensation of neck and throat.
Bring your awareness down to the sensation of chest.
Remember there is nothing to do about it.
Nothing is good or bad.
Just feel the sensation of chest.
Perhaps you can even feel the beating of your heart.
Feel the sensation of shoulders.
And trace the sensation of both your arms from the shoulders to the elbows.
From the elbows to the wrists.
And now feel the sensation of both of your hands.
Feel the sensation of your left thumb.
Your left index finger.
Your left middle finger.
Your fourth finger.
And your pinky finger.
Now feel the sensation of your right thumb.
Your right index finger.
Middle finger.
Fourth finger.
And pinky finger.
And bring your awareness back to your left thumb.
Now bring the awareness back to your right thumb.
Left thumb.
Right thumb.
Now without thinking about it too much,
Feel the sensation of both your thumbs at the same time.
Not as if they are two separate objects,
But they are just one object.
You're feeling the sensation of both your thumbs at the same time.
Now bring your awareness to your belly.
And feel your entire trunk.
Now bring your awareness to your pelvis.
And just feeling the sensation of pelvis.
Trace the sensation of both your legs from your hips to your knees.
From your knees to your ankles.
And now feel the sensation of both of your feet.
Bring your awareness to your left big toe.
Second toe.
Third toe.
Fourth toe.
And pinky toe.
Bring your awareness to your right big toe.
Second toe.
Third toe.
Fourth toe.
Second toe.
Pinky toe.
And bring your awareness back to your left big toe.
Now your right big toe.
Left big toe.
Right big toe.
And without thinking about it too much,
Bring your awareness to both of your big toes.
And again,
It's as if they're not two separate objects,
But they're the same object.
And you're bringing your awareness to it right now.
Now feel the entire right side of your body.
From the crown of your head to the tips of your right toes.
Feel the entire left side of your body.
From the crown of your head down to your left toes.
Feel the entire right side of body.
The entire left side of body.
Now feel your entire body.
Feel the sensation of body.
It's as if your awareness is trying on the sensation of body like a costume.
Noticing how it feels to be body.
Now I invite you to adopt the feeling of heaviness.
Everything is heavy.
Your arms are heavy and your legs are heavy.
Your head is heavy.
It's as though somebody put a bunch of warm quilts on top of you.
It feels nourishing and comfortable,
But heavy.
And now everything feels light.
Very light.
Adopt the feeling of lightness.
Like you could almost float.
Everything is light.
And now everything is heavy again.
Adopt the feeling of heaviness.
And now everything is light again.
Feel light.
This isn't supposed to make sense.
But now be both heavy and light.
You are both heavy and light.
This extends beyond rational thinking.
But what part of you is both heavy and light?
Be awareness itself.
Feel yourself as awareness.
Experiencing yourself as a body on the floor.
Or as the sound of my voice.
Now you are going to go on a visual journey.
And on this journey you will meet up with a very wise person.
And this wise person is going to tell you something specific to you.
And when that happens it will be the first thing that comes to your mind.
Don't think about it.
Don't try to conjure it or create it.
It will just happen on its own.
Imagine you're walking along a path in a forest.
Feel yourself walking now.
Feel your arms swinging by your sides.
Feel your feet pressing into the ground.
Feel the movement of clothes on your skin as you walk.
See this through your own eyes.
You're not looking at this on a screen.
But you are actually there.
Seeing everything first hand.
What do you see on this forest path?
Bring some of the colours into your inner eye.
Examine some of the textures and shapes.
What do you smell in this forest?
Can you taste the forest?
Can you taste that earthy taste like when you eat a potato or a carrot?
You're walking along this forest path.
And you're walking deeper and deeper into the forest.
Now in front of you,
You see a stream.
And there's a small bridge that will allow you to cross that stream.
Walk across that bridge now.
Feeling the bridge under your feet.
Feeling your arms still swinging by your sides.
And when you cross that bridge,
You see the wisest person you know.
This can be a real person or an archetype of what a wise person is to you.
It can be somebody you know or somebody you have never met.
But who is the wisest person you know?
You really trust this person.
And you value their opinion.
Whatever they might say to you is for your best.
This person knows you very well.
They know your entire life story.
All of your mistakes and successes.
Everything that lights you up.
And the things that bring you down as well.
They know you so well that they could practically read your mind.
Not only do they know you so well,
But they are rooting for you.
They admire you and they want what's best for you.
Allow the love that this person has for you to fill up your heart space.
Feel that love in your heart.
Now feel that love spread through your entire body.
Feel it down in your belly.
It's travelling along your arms to your hands.
Down your legs into your feet.
Your whole body is filled with love.
Now it's time to talk to that wise person.
Maybe you'll sit down beside them.
Or maybe you'll go and continue your walk together into the forest.
They might share a warm drink with you.
Or they might have your favourite snack to eat.
And if you're sitting,
Maybe they even light a campfire so you can both chat comfortably.
The more time you spend with this person,
You confirm that feeling that they know you so well and they love you so much.
There's a lull in conversation,
At which point this wise person pauses,
Smiles,
Looks over at you and they say,
You know there's something I want to tell you about you.
This is the first thing that pops into your head.
This wise person looks at you and they say,
What I want to tell you about you is.
.
.
Allow your mind to fill in the blank.
They say,
What I want to tell you about you is.
.
.
What's the first thing that comes to your mind?
What would they tell you about you?
Sometimes it's a feeling.
Sometimes it's a voice.
Sometimes it's an image.
And sometimes this wisdom doesn't come right away,
But it will come to you later.
Maybe through a dream,
Or music,
Or art,
Or something you might overhear somebody else say.
That wisdom is on its way to you now.
What's the first thing in your head?
What does this wise person tell you about you?
Repeat that to yourself in your own mind.
Whatever this wise person says to you,
Welcome,
Recognize,
And witness everything that's happening in this moment,
Inside and out.
Eventually you say goodbye to this wise friend,
But know that they are always there.
This wise person is always in that forest.
Say goodbye.
And upon leaving,
This wise person tells you that you are loved,
And you are needed in this world.
Go back over the bridge,
Across the stream,
And make your way out of the forest,
Step by step,
Retracing your steps.
But now with this knowledge that this wise person bestowed upon you,
About you,
You carry that knowledge that you are loved and needed,
Knowing that you are needed.
You know how to share your gifts,
And love,
And presence with the world.
Now feel yourself again here lying on the floor.
Feel your body.
Hear the sound of my voice.
Become aware of your surroundings,
The temperature of the air around you,
And the feeling of your body on the mat.
Remember your sankalpa,
Your positive intention for this practice,
And repeat that to yourself in your mind.
Because you've practiced yoga nidra today and tapped into this deep inner wisdom,
You'll begin to deepen your awareness and find more wisdom in everyday life.
You'll be able to handle difficult situations better,
Strengthen your relationships,
And improve in your work.
You'll learn to trust your own inner guidance and intuition.
In a moment I will count down from five,
And that will signal the end of this yoga nidra practice.
5,
4,
3,
2,
1 Yoga Nidra is over.
