Turn Your Awareness On
by Ashlie Woods
Tap into your infinite power to create. This practice will invite you to take in the world around you and as you do, notice where your attention is being pulled. In our lives, each thing takes a small demand on our awareness, which, once tapped into, will allow us to let go of attachments and leave us feeling centered and invigorated. This practice is ideally done while standing.

Com and this meditation is a meditation for centering and stepping into your power.
Some of this practice is an adaptation of a practice I learned from a man named Doug Sillsby.
He's the founder of present space coaching.
You can find his work online at present space coaching or also on YouTube.
This meditation is a standing meditation.
So if you're currently sitting you'll want to stand up and give yourself just a little bit of space around you.
Let your attention be spontaneously drawn to your breath.
Keeping your eyes open,
Soften your body,
And expand your awareness.
Where are you?
Take in the room around you.
Notice the email notification on your computer or your phone.
The pile of to-dos that are sitting on your desk next to you.
Or perhaps it's the laundry that's waiting to be folded.
Notice how each of those things subtly pulls at your attention.
How each thing you see is a little demand on your awareness.
Sense the collective of that.
The whole of that pull and how it all impacts you.
Now expand your awareness to include things that pull on you in some way but are not physically represented in the room.
Maybe it's a commitment you have for an hour from now.
A place you need to be or a call you need to make.
Thoughts about what you're having for dinner or with whom you're having it.
Sense all of that together.
The swirl of concerns and commitments and stuff that surrounds you.
And feel how that works in you.
Sense how it pulls on you.
Now bring your attention fully back here.
Like closing up an umbrella,
Let your awareness fold in on itself and come fully into your body.
Without closing your eyes,
Feel yourself settle.
Your focus come deeply into this moment.
My voice,
The words I'm speaking.
And sense your aliveness right here.
Notice that you're making a choice about where you direct your attention.
You can choose to let it be on all that swirl around you.
And you can choose to bring it right here,
Right now.
Simple,
Present,
Focused.
That ability to move your focus is your superpower.
Let's practice bringing our awareness back into the body.
Into our direct experience and fully into the generous present moment.
If it's possible and easy for you to slip off your shoes,
Go ahead and do that.
And if your balance is stable enough to close your eyes,
Close your eyes.
If you feel that you need to keep your eyes open to stay balanced,
That's okay too.
Just allow your gaze to be slightly downward and your focus soft.
And stand with your feet shoulder-width apart.
Bring your attention into the soles of your feet.
Feel the ground,
The carpet pressing up into the soles of your feet,
The smoothness of the floor beneath you.
Feel the pressure.
You might shift your weight back and forth a bit to feel more deeply into the soles of your feet.
Just let all of your awareness be there.
Relax your knees,
Meaning that they're not bent so you're not having to make an effort to hold yourself there,
But they're not locked out either.
Just soft,
Relaxed knees.
Without efforting,
Straighten your back.
Let your shoulders be loose as if your body were a silk shirt on a coat hanger.
Let your chest open.
Not in the sense of throwing your shoulders back and puffing out your chest with a sort of arrogance,
But more like you're allowing your heart to open,
Being connected to the world through your heart space,
Opening a little bit wider.
Relax your jaw.
Soften your eyes in their sockets.
Imagine a thread connecting the very top of your head to the sky.
Imagine a vertical line down the length of your body into the floor,
And you're organizing yourself around this vertical line and inhabiting your length.
Take a couple of deep breaths and sense the breath moving in and out of your body.
Experience yourself as relaxed,
Alert,
As connected to yourself and your environment.
This is what it feels like to be centered.
What do you notice?
Standing in this shape,
How are you different?
What energy do you feel now that wasn't there a couple of minutes ago?
Now go back to your usual shape.
It might feel like a collapse,
But it might also feel like you're moving into something really familiar.
Just relax into your usual shape.
Now what happened to your mood?
How are you different in this familiar shape?
Now move back into your centered body,
Feeling your feet on the ground,
Your heart open and connected,
Stretching into your length and organizing around this vertical line,
Relaxed,
Alert,
Present,
Waiting.
What mood does this shape produce?
What possibilities open for you?
If you lived in this centered body all of the time,
What would life be like?
Let's play with this for a moment.
Like flipping a light switch switch off and on,
Taking yourself from this centered space.
Turn off and allow your body to fall back into its old familiar shape.
Now turn yourself back on.
Come back to center.
Turn off.
Turn on.
Notice the quickness with which you can move yourself from one state to another.
How quickly you can turn yourself on.
Full of brightness.
Full of aliveness.
From this place of center,
You're tapped into your infinite power.
Standing here,
Occupying this physical space,
Feel yourself as a vibrational being.
Experience your subtle body alive with energy.
Now tune into your heart center and ask yourself,
How do I most want to feel right now?
How would I love to feel as I move throughout my day?
Just let the answer arise within your heart.
In a moment I'm going to count to three and you're going to move yourself into that new state of being.
Into the way that you most want to feel.
Like stepping through a doorway and entering a new room,
You're going to literally step into this feeling and into the way that you most want to feel.
So feeling yourself centered and grounded here and clear about what it is that you most want to feel.
One,
Ready yourself to move.
Two,
Feel the energy of your body.
Three,
Take a step forward.
Move your body into a new energetic space.
Allow the feeling you chose to drench you.
Let it overcome you and fill you up.
Take a full deep breath and allow your awareness and your energy and this feeling to expand beyond the edges of your body.
Sense the energy field that emanates from you.
See it filling the space of the room that you're in.
See this feeling like a light radiating from within you and all around you.
You not only have the power to create this energy for yourself,
You can be the source of this energy for others.
Like attracts like.
This is your point of attraction.
When you are joy,
Joy will find you.
When you are peace,
Peace will surround you.
When you stand in freedom,
Your presence will liberate others.
Now take your hands and place them on your heart.
Bless your body for its infinite power and wisdom,
For its partnership with you,
Because it allows you,
A spiritual being,
To have this amazing human experience.
And give thanks for the power within you that you can turn yourself on in any given moment for your ability to move your attention and awareness and energy onto things that feel good and that ultimately serve the whole of humanity.
And when you're ready,
Open your eyes,
Come back into the room that you're in,
And go on about your day with the power you have to create your life.

This is a really great meditation. And when I switch between my normal stance into my power and opening my heart, it feels more freeing.
