Getting what we want is typically a forward thinking process. We get fixated on what we want and sometimes that can take over our present moment experience. In this meditation practice, we are able to practice understanding ourselves more easily when it comes to this idea of “getting what we want”. The more presence we can practice, the easier it is to see what we actually want — and sometimes that truth can surprise us! This is a welcome invitation to find some ease, presence and a gentle reminder that you can get what you want while also practicing the idea that you are enough as is. Hi,

This is Stephanie Boxerbaum.

Thank you so much for meditating with me today.

For today's practice,

We're going to be doing a getting what you want practice.

Now,

This idea of getting what you want typically is rooted in future thinking because we don't have what we want,

So we're trying to get what we want,

And so we're kind of often in that forward-looking perspective.

With mindfulness,

However,

The idea is that we want to remind ourselves that we can use presence to get what we want.

We can check in with,

Is this thing I really think I want actually the truth?

Because sometimes we can get so focused on the future,

So focused on the plan that has to be figured out that if you can stop and get present and allow yourself just to be still,

There's new insights that can arrive.

Maybe it's about the next step to take to getting what you want.

Maybe you're realizing what you thought you wanted you didn't want at all.

So the goal is to try to just allow yourself to have some presence,

Have some stillness,

And getting out of kind of this goal-oriented mindset that can easily return as soon as the practice is over,

But rather just in this moment,

Being exactly as you are right now,

Knowing you're enough as is,

And really seeing what it is you need to go and get what you want.

Coming to a comfortable seat,

Not can be laying down today.

Maybe you feel like doing mindful walking if you're a bit restless,

But really finding something that feels good in your body today.

Whatever that means.

This is a time for you.

And letting that just sink in for a moment,

That this is a time for you unlike other times.

This is a place to cultivate your own presence.

To let yourself be exactly as you are in this moment with all the feelings,

All the thoughts,

And knowing it can be exactly as it needs to be right now.

And if it's comfortable,

Playing around with this idea of putting a big self-compassion blanket on,

However that resonates for you today.

It's that warm feeling.

It just feels good.

So taking a deep breath in and a gentle breath out.

And doing that once more.

Gentle breath in and a deep breath out.

And let's begin with the phrase,

May I be present.

May I be present.

And we use the phrase may I be present because it's a well-wishing.

Perhaps the mind is a bit agitated today or thinking about a lot of things.

Or maybe the mind is just not feeling well.

Or maybe the mind is a bit sluggish.

Either way,

We wanna add a little bit of energy of presence of checking in with what's going on right here,

Right now.

So I'll watch our time here.

And we'll use the phrase may I be present where you'll just silently say to yourself this phrase,

Maybe on the inhale,

Taking an exhale,

And then beginning again.

So when the mind wanders off,

We just simply bring ourselves back to this phrase,

May I be present.

And on this next inhale in,

Envisioning a mountain.

Can be as tall as you'd like,

As wide as you'd like.

Maybe your mountain has snow on it.

Maybe it's spring and there's flowers everywhere.

Really envisioning something today that feels right to you.

And sensing into this mountain energy,

Giving yourself this invitation to breathe in the strength and confidence of this mountain that you've created.

An unstoppable force,

An energy for yourself that no one can stop.

And staying with this energy,

Beginning to notice where do you feel it in your body?

If you are standing on top of this mountain,

Declaring for yourself,

I'm going to get exactly what I want.

Where do you feel that strength in the body?

Letting go of the story of whatever it is that you think you want or you might want or you need to have,

This is just the general sense of the matter.

And knowing that you can get what you want,

Where do you feel it in the body?

Perhaps it's the heart space.

Maybe it's the hands.

Maybe it's the face.

Paying close attention to where you feel that energy.

And we'll rest here for these next few minutes.

Gently breathing in and breathing out into the space where you feel that strength.

Knowing there is only one of you in this whole entire world.

And you are enough exactly as you need to be right now.

Breathing in the strength of the energy and noticing where is it landing in the body.

Taking a deep breath in and a gentle breath out in coming from this place of strength,

This place of ease.

Gently asking the question,

What's one thing I can do to get what I want?

And go with the first thing that comes up,

Whether it makes sense,

Whether it doesn't,

Allowing the body to show up.

There's no right or wrong answer.

And you are enough exactly as you need to be just allowing to see what's there,

What's present.

Gently allowing yourself to hear what you need to hear.

And on these next few inhales and exhales,

As you're reminded,

You always have the strength and power to get what you want.

The other reminder is that you are an unstoppable being,

Not because of what you have or your accomplishments,

But you and your own essence is all that's needed.

You have the power to guide yourself however you want to go,

Wherever you want to go and whatever you want to do.

And allowing for this cultivated practice of presence,

Of strength,

Of being like the mountain,

You can come back to this as often as you need to be.

You can come back to this as often as you need to be.

Maintaining this sense of ease,

Not clinging to the outcome,

But rather staying present with what is as the guiding light.

So gently beginning to come back to the space around you,

Feeling your fingers and toes.

And we'll rest here for these next few moments.

And sharing a kind reminder that you are always enough as is.

And when you're ready,

Gently opening your eyes.

Thank you so much for meditating with me today and I hope to be meditating again with you soon.
