Finding yourself a comfortable seated position with the spine nice and long perhaps lifting the shoulders and rolling them back and down releasing out any tension you're holding in your jaw bringing the awareness to the sensations of the body breathing noticing where you can feel the breath perhaps you feel it in the chest the abdomen or maybe you feel the breath coming in and out of the nostrils taking a moment to allow the mind to settle into this moment focusing on the body and the breath and it's perfectly natural for the mind to wander it is the job of the mind to have thoughts and we're beginning to train our mind and when the mind wanders into those thoughts bringing the awareness back to the breath and the body and watching the breath coming and going and we'll begin this meditation by bringing something to mind that you appreciate about yourself beginning with the body asking yourself what you like about your body it may be a physical feature like your hair or skin or it might be a quality like strength or flexibility perhaps something like your hands or your feet for carrying you around and just pause to appreciate it for a moment perhaps it's your teeth for enabling you to eat your food your hearing enabling you to hear as something arises staying with the experience of gratitude just pausing and appreciating it for a moment and switching to the mind looking at the qualities of your brain and asking yourself what you appreciate about your brain and your personality again simply be with the appreciation when something arises and for the last few moments we'll focus on the five senses the sight,

Smell,

Taste,

Hearing,

And touch going through each sense and recognizing the beauty and pleasure that these senses have brought to you beginning with the sight the gratitude for the eyes the things we can see and smell a thank you for my sense of sight and smell a thank you for my sense of smell for the delicious food I can smell the flowers and the aromas and the taste thank you for my taste thinking about the gift of taste that it brings to you and appreciate these gifts and hearing thank you for my hearing maybe recognizing that the sense of hearing has allowed you to hear the voice of a loved one a bird singing in a tree and touch the sense of touch that has allowed you to feel all the things you touch on a daily basis the thank you body thank you body or when you're alone the thank you body or when you're ready and gently open the eyes
