Before we begin,
I want to share an image with you.
I was recently given a Buddha statue as a gift.
His hands lifted in the air,
Palms open,
Not gripping,
Not holding on so tight.
As I move into this new year,
That image keeps returning,
A quiet reminder that peace doesn't always come from control,
Sometimes it comes from release.
So let this be a moment of letting go.
Find a comfortable position,
Seated or lying down,
Where your body feels most supported.
If it's okay,
Gently lift your hands,
Palms open,
Resting lightly in the air or on your thighs.
Take a deep breath in through your nose,
And as you exhale,
Imagining loosening your grip on anything you've been holding on to tightly.
Again,
Inhale space,
And exhale tension.
So much of life teaches us to be careful,
To plan,
To brace,
To hold everything together.
And sometimes that matters,
But sometimes caution becomes a cage.
With your next inhale,
Lift your hands just a little higher,
Open,
Unclenched.
And as you exhale,
Imagine throwing caution to the wind,
Letting it move through your fingers,
Carrying away old fears and expectations,
And the pressure to get it right.
Pause here.
Nothing opens when your hands are full.
Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is open your hands and trust the wind.
Take a slow breath in,
And let those words settle,
And then silently repeat,
I don't need to hold it so tightly.
Lower your hands gently if you'd like,
Letting them rest where they feel natural.
Feel the openness you've created in the body,
In your breath,
And in your mind.
And take one more deep breath in,
Wide open,
Ungrounded,
And exhale out.
As you move forward,
Carry this with you,
Open hands,
Open heart,
Open ear.
Throw caution to the wind when it's time,
And trust yourself enough to follow what feels true.
