Welcome to the awareness and acceptance meditation for sobriety.
Please sit or lie down comfortably.
Close your eyes and take a slow,
Deep breath.
Notice your body feeling relaxed.
Feel yourself sitting or lying on the floor,
Supported and safe.
Breathe in gently,
And when you breathe out,
Let go of stress or tension.
Picture it leaving your body.
Focus softly on your breath.
Notice how your body breathes by itself.
Just observe your breathing without trying to change it.
Today,
We're practicing awareness and acceptance.
Awareness means noticing what's happening right now without judging yourself.
So think about your drinking.
Notice any thoughts or feelings that come up.
You don't have to change or judge these feelings.
Just notice them.
Ask yourself,
Why did I drink?
What was I looking for?
Next,
Think about what drinking has cost you.
Maybe you've felt sad,
Anxious,
Or stressed.
Maybe it cost you money,
Or it caused trouble in relationships.
Just notice these things without criticizing yourself.
Now,
Let's practice acceptance.
Acceptance means seeing things as they really are without fighting them.
It doesn't mean liking what's happened,
Just seeing it clearly and calmly.
So say quietly to yourself,
I accept myself in my past.
I accept myself in my past.
I accept myself in my past.
Notice how saying this makes you feel more peaceful.
How do you feel?
Repeat after me.
In acceptance,
I find peace.
In acceptance,
I find peace.
In acceptance,
I find peace.
Let these words sink in.
Feel how accepting your past helps you feel calm and less stressed.
The definition of acceptance is agreeing to give up something for something in return.
So with this meaning,
You are giving up something to receive peace in return.
Feel this peace inside of you.
Slowly start bringing your attention back.
Notice your body,
Your breath,
And the sounds around you.
Move your fingers and toes gently.
Stretch a bit if you'd like.
Open your eyes when you're ready.
Thank yourself for doing this meditation and remember that acceptance helps you find peace.
Take this calm feeling with you as you continue your day.
Namaste
