Hello namaste and thank you for joining me for the sacred sound journey,
The art of mantra chanting.
Today we will be learning to chant the pancha vayu or the pancha prana mantra.
The pancha prana refers to the five vital life forces or breaths in the body according to traditional yogic philosophy.
In Sanskrit pancha means five and prana translates to life force or vital energy.
The concept of pancha prana is integral to yogic practices and understanding the subtle energies that animate the human body.
Here are the five types of pranas and their meanings.
Prana Often considered the most vital of the five,
Prana is the upward moving life force associated with breath and the inhalation process.
It energizes the body and mind,
Supporting physical and mental activities.
Apana Apana is the downward moving force associated with elimination and the exhalation process.
It governs functions related to elimination including digestion,
Excretion and the reproductive processes.
Samana Samana is the balancing force that operates in the middle region of the body.
It aids in digestion and assimilation of nutrients.
Samana ensures balance and harmony in the body's energy distribution.
Udana Udana is the upward moving force associated with the throat and the head region.
It governs activities related to expression,
Speech and the lifting of the body.
Udana is involved in spiritual and higher mental functions.
Vyana Vyana is the pervasive force that circulates throughout the entire body.
It is responsible for coordinating and integrating the other pranas,
Ensuring a harmonious flow of energy throughout the system.
Let us now learn to chant this mantra.
This mantra can also be recited mentally during pranayama or even during a vinyasa practice.
Make yourself comfortable in a quiet place.
Sit tall and slowly take in a couple of deep breaths.
Now bring your attention to your exhalation,
Making it deeper and smoother.
After the next inhale,
Chant the following mantras.
Om Napanayana Namaha Om Samanayana Namaha Om Udanayana Namaha Om Vyanayana Namaha Let us sit quietly for a few minutes,
Taking it all in.
One can chant each of these pancha vayu or pancha prana mantras several times,
Putting it all together.
I hope you have enjoyed this chanting experience with me.
I look forward to hearing from you about your experiences.
Take care and be well.
