Explore a gentle creative visualization technique to boost energy levels. This practice is inspired by my dear friend who lives with MS. Her biggest struggle is fatigue, so I wrote this meditation and recorded it as a mindfulness-based intervention (MBI) to help her with this challenge. The mind and body connection through visualization is a powerful one! Visualize energy as it moves through the body while also imagining what it would feel like and be like to have more energy. This is a meditation for fatigue.

Find yourself in a comfortable position.

You can sit on a chair or cross-legged onto the floor.

You can also lie down if that's calling you today.

On days when we feel really tired,

We can utilize a really beautiful meditation technique called visualization to help create a connection between the mind and the body.

This meditation is inspired by a study that showed veterans when they had experienced loss of a limb during war.

They had been experiencing some pains in the limb that no longer exists.

Doctors would call this the phantom limb experience.

So a group of meditators and researchers got together and started teaching these veterans about meditation and visualization.

And so what they taught the veterans to do was to close their eyes to imagine the limb and to flood the limb with loving and kind and compassionate energy.

This could be in the form of bright light.

It could be a beautiful color like blue or pink.

And as the veterans visualized the light moving into their bodies and into the phantom limb,

They would also imagine or visualize what it would be like to be pain-free.

And so over time,

As these veterans did their practice and did it consistently,

The veterans reported less and less experiences of pain in the phantom limb.

This is powerful because this tells us so much about the power of visualization and how this can help us on a day-to-day basis.

So if you're feeling particularly tired,

You can use this technique and over time notice how it affects your energy levels throughout the day.

And so with that said,

We'll come into our meditation practice now.

I trust that you've found a comfortable seat,

That you're lying down.

However,

You've placed your body,

That it was placed in a special way.

Go ahead and close down the eyes.

Take a nice deep breath in.

And as you exhale,

Relax your body just a little bit more.

As you soften the body,

Bring your attention to the muscles of the face,

Particularly around the eyes and the cheeks and the jaw.

See if you can consciously relax these places as well.

And then shift your attention to the top of your head,

Also known as the crown of your head.

And I want you to imagine now using your creative visualization abilities,

That there is a little door at the top of your head.

Picture a little handle,

Or maybe even a keyhole.

And then using your imagination,

Go ahead and open up that little door at the top of the head.

This is where energy is going to enter into your body.

Once the door is open,

I want you to now visualize energy above your head.

This can look any way that you want it to.

It might be a ball of bright light.

Maybe the light is white,

Or yellow.

Or maybe it has a special color.

However you decide to visualize it,

Let that image become clear in your mind.

And then start to visualize the light coming in through the crown of your head with every inhalation.

As you breathe in,

See that light start to trickle in.

See it wash through your brain and down over your eyes and through the back of your head.

With each and every gentle and easy inhalation,

Start to move that light.

Move it into the cheeks,

The nose,

The ears.

As if you are standing or sitting underneath a shower of light.

Let the light start to wash down over your head.

As if the light is moving from the inside out.

This light is full of energy.

It's full of prana,

Or life force.

It's warm.

It's soothing.

It's soothing.

It's relaxing.

As the light continues to wash into the neck,

Let it spill over your shoulders.

Let it move down into your chest where it bathes the lungs and heart.

Feel it in your torso.

Feel it moving down your arms,

All the way down into your fingertips.

Perhaps you can even sense a tiny tingling of energy in the tips of your fingers.

Let that light continue to flow down into your hips,

Your belly,

Washing through your internal organs.

Let it move down your legs and all the way out through the soles of your feet.

Allowing this light to fill you up,

To get you ready for your day,

Or to re-energize you halfway through your day,

Or wherever you're at.

Let it be the perfect light,

The most beautiful energy.

And then when you're ready,

Gently open your eyes.
