Welcome to the Mindful Minute with Douglas Cardwell, professional musician and sound immersion guide. Here we get to meet Douglas as he relates simple daily tools he uses to minimize unnecessary distraction and stress throughout the day. Modern life is stressful because we often find ourselves in a hurry and rushing around. These simple strategies and short reminders are intended to help you be more present and find more joy in every moment. This track, Mindfulness Out Loud, turns everyday tasks into mindfulness practices. Eliminate the anxiety and nagging distraction of not knowing if you left something behind or undone; forgetting important documents or locking the door, for example, by saying out loud what you are doing as you perform these tasks. This is a physical way to be present while performing even the most mundane of tasks and, more importantly, to proceed reassured without worry. Listen as Douglas explains. Namaste. Welcome to the Mindful Minute with Lotus Soundbath.

Simple tools to use throughout your day,

Every day,

A practice in mindfulness and coming to presence.

How many times have you left your house or office only to go back to see if you locked the door or to retrieve something that you had forgotten because your mind was not with you when you left,

It was actually where you were going.

A small tool to remember in staying present,

Especially when putting your hand on an item,

Just say,

I'm picking up this file,

This document,

It's in my hand and I'm ready to go.

Locking the door,

Actually putting the key in the door and turning it,

But when you turn it,

Literally saying,

I'm turning the lock,

Checking in the door's locked,

Takes an extra two seconds.

That way you're truly present when you're locking the door,

When you're touching the file.

And the game is you don't have to go back,

You're there when you're doing the action instead of a little bit of ahead of yourself.

Same thing can happen when you're leaving your home,

If you're locking the door or if you're using the garage,

The same thing can work.

I'm pressing the garage door button and I'm watching the garage door go down,

An extra two seconds,

Maybe three,

So you don't have to go back and you feel comfortable and grounded that these items have actually occurred in your real time instead of in the time of your future and forward of where you're going to.

Try it out,

Let me know how it's working,

We'd love to hear back.
