Seeing Through The Shadows

Limiting beliefs often feel convincing—not because they are true, but because they’ve gone unquestioned for a long time. They move like shadows across our awareness, quietly shaping how we see ourselves and what we believe is possible. In this extended meditation, we slow the pace and gently turn toward those shadows with curiosity rather than judgment. Through simple awareness and spacious pauses, we practice noticing the thoughts and stories that obscure our natural clarity—without trying to fix or force anything to change. As awareness deepens, what once felt heavy or fearful begins to soften. Not through effort, but through clear seeing and the light of awareness. This is a longer, more contemplative practice for those who wish to stay with the work a little longer and experience how awareness itself dissolves what fear once obscured. Come as you are. Awareness is enough.

Welcome to Rooted Growth,

A place where you're invited to slow down,

Soften,

And reconnect.

My name is Lisa,

And I'm so glad you're here.

In this practice,

You'll find space for both stillness and inspiration,

Without pressure and without needing to be anywhere else.

Limiting beliefs are not truths.

They're not facts.

They're not prophecies.

They're messages we absorbed often early,

Usually family of origin stuff,

Usually quietly and kind of gradually over long periods of time about who we are and about what's possible for us.

Messages like,

I'm not enough,

If they really knew me,

They wouldn't love me,

Or one that I can really relate to,

I'm too much,

I should be further along by now,

This is just how I am.

Over time,

These beliefs can feel convincing,

They can feel like the truth,

But it's not because they are true,

But it's because they've been repeated over and over and over again.

You might think about them like shadows cast across a wall.

Usually shadows look kind of spooky,

Large,

Intimidating,

And real,

But shadows only exist because something is blocking the light.

Meditation doesn't argue with these beliefs.

Our practice doesn't try to replace these beliefs with better affirmations or positive thinking.

Instead,

I think meditation does something much more powerful.

It brings awareness.

And awareness is light.

When we sit quietly and turn inward,

We begin to notice the voice of limitation.

Not as who we are,

But as something that is happening.

A thought arises.

One of those stories repeats itself.

A familiar conclusion forms.

Yet in this noticing,

Something can shift.

We can start to see that these beliefs are not our true self.

They're experiences of ourself.

They're really like clouds passing through the sky.

Temporary,

Always changing,

Never permanent.

The moment we see a limiting belief clearly as a limiting belief,

It begins to lose its grip.

Not because we force it away,

But because shadows cannot survive sustained light.

This is liberation.

And it's not dramatic or flashy.

It's actually quiet and subtle and steady.

And as awareness grows,

Something else becomes available.

Choice.

We're no longer compelled to live from these beliefs that have been rooted in stories,

In fear,

In protection,

In old tapes and conditioning.

We become free to align with our core beliefs that really reflect our true nature.

Our self,

Capital S.

Beliefs like,

I am capable of growth.

I am allowed to evolve and change.

And I can meet this moment just as I am.

These beliefs don't need defending.

They don't shout.

They feel spacious and grounded.

They feel true.

Meditation is the practice of returning to that truth again and again.

Not fixing yourself.

Not perfecting yourself.

Just remembering who you were before the shadows felt so convincing.

Every time you notice a limiting belief and can meet it with awareness.

You are choosing freedom.

Now let's prepare for our meditation.

Find a comfortable seat.

Rest your hands gently in your lap and softly close your eyes.

And go within to that place of inner quiet where we experience our connection to our higher self.

Begin to observe the inflow and the outflow of your breath.

With each inflow and outflow.

Allow yourself to become more relaxed.

More comfortable.

More at peace.

Take your seat of quiet dignity.

Let's consider our centering thought for today.

Awareness dissolves the shadows.

Awareness dissolves the shadows.

Hold this softly in your heart.

And now I'll introduce today's mantra.

On your inhale.

Say I choose.

On your exhale.

Awareness.

I choose.

Awareness.

I choose.

Awareness.

Please continue with your meditation.

I'll mind the time.

Starting and ending with a soft bell.

It's time to gently release the mantra.

Sit restfully for a few moments.

And when you feel ready.

Allow your eyes to open slowly.

Bringing the light of this practice back into your day.

And as you continue to move through your day.

Carry our centering thought with you.

Awareness dissolves the shadows.

Awareness dissolves the shadows.

Thank you so much for your practice today.

May the calm you've cultivated here.

Continue to support and steady you.

Through whatever comes next.
