This guided meditation is an invitation to accept that inertia (or stuckness and the inability to move forward in your life) is something that we all face at different points in our lives. It's also an invitation to remember that it's always temporary, and that you will be able to step forward in your life once again. By tapping into the breath, there is a gentle reminder that yes, things can be difficult, but yes, there is always change and choice on the other side of that. Use this meditation when you're feeling stuck and you want to start the process of moving beyond that, breath by breath.

Have you ever found yourself feeling so completely stuck that you simply cannot move?

You know that you need to,

You can see the steps that you would need to take in order to move yourself forward,

But something within you just holds you back.

There is a beautiful word that encapsulates that feeling,

And that word is inertia.

Inertia means a tendency to do nothing or to remain unchanged.

A tendency to have all the plans figured out,

But to not take action on them.

A way of finding reasons to not put yourself out there.

A way of preventing yourself being seen or heard.

Knowing what it is that you need to do to take care of your health and your well-being,

But not actually being able to take those steps in reality.

That feeling of immovability can be physical or emotional,

Or both.

It's a resistance to being seen in your entirety,

Because it's safer not to try.

It's uncomplicated.

If you don't try,

You don't lose out.

If you don't try,

You don't have to face the consequences of what might happen.

It feels as though the terror of failure is so much easier to relent to than to conspire against.

So instead,

You knowingly slip through one day into the next,

Leaving parts of your life untouched and unused.

A wasteful misuse of this grand human experience.

But you do it,

Because to do anything of great consequence means an opening of your heart,

An opening of yourself.

And once that's done,

There's no going back.

So you sit in complete stasis,

Unmoving.

Until you realize that your immovability cuts you off from fear as much as it does from joy.

That your unwavering determination to stay put holds you back from being hurt as much as it does from being lit up with the fire of life.

That elation of simply being alive and being a part of this wonderful world that we get to enjoy here and now,

In this moment.

All of those things are sacrificed with that feeling of inertia.

You realize that every choice has a consequence.

But every choice is also yours to make.

And in this very moment,

You have choice.

Inertia is a choice.

Knowing that inertia is a choice.

Knowing that it's something that plagues us all at some stage or another.

Knowing that there is the potential to move beyond it.

Let's take a moment right here,

Just to settle into the space that we're in.

And to reflect on that feeling.

And what it might feel like to move beyond it.

Wherever you are,

Just sinking into whatever surface it is that you're sitting on.

You might be lying on a bed,

In which case it'll be very easy just to relax and settle down into the bed you're lying on.

Maybe you're on a couch,

A yoga mat,

Even a grassy lawn.

Wherever you are right now,

Taking a moment to ground into that space.

Tuning into the very motion of your breath,

And the way that it moves through your body at this moment in time.

Not trying to alter its course,

But just being aware of the way that it moves through you.

As if it were an undulating wave,

Curling and unfurling.

Tuning into that movement of breath.

And tuning into how your body feels in this moment.

And maybe you are currently trapped in the clutches of inertia.

Maybe you are unmoving,

Unable to move.

And maybe you know what it is that you need,

But you just can't quite move yourself to go and claim it.

And it's so completely natural.

So just being gentle with yourself,

If that's what you're feeling.

It is something that we all struggle with.

And if that's what you're experiencing,

That's okay.

Just being mindful of the fact that even if it doesn't feel like it now,

That inertia will pass.

You will eventually get to that place where you can gently coerce the inertia to convert itself into movement.

To convert itself into energy.

To convert itself into forward motion.

Just by bringing your awareness to the fact that this is where you are now is all you can do at the moment.

And that's okay.

But you can also have a deeper awareness that lies underneath that.

That says this is not where you always have to be.

And that through grace and gentility,

Compassion and patience,

You can find your way back to that feeling of moveability.

To that ease.

To that sense that you can finally start to move forward in your life again.

And when you get to that space,

You'll feel that flow of energy and life.

That feeling of being in love with the awe and wonder of what it means to be alive.

You'll feel that you're in your flow.

You'll have that sensation of bliss riding through you.

And you know that this capacity exists within you and that you can access it and live through it at any time.

If you're starting to feel that movement come alive just through hearing these words and feeling that feeling again,

That's wonderful.

Use it.

Harness it.

Let it grow within you.

Let it expand.

And if you're not feeling it,

If you're still feeling as if you're trapped within that space of inertia,

Give yourself some grace.

Give yourself some time.

Keep that feeling lying underneath your awareness and know that the feeling of inertia will pass.

Just breathe into the possibility of moving forward when the time is right for you,

Regardless of where you may be right now.

Just take a moment to say to yourself that it's okay.

However you are feeling in this moment is okay.

Taking a beautiful deep breath in,

Filling your belly,

Filling your ribcage and chest.

And as you exhale,

Just softly letting the air trickle from your body through either your nose or your mouth.

And in this moment,

Regardless of what you may be feeling,

Just showing yourself some gratitude.

Gratitude for holding yourself through whatever it is that you're facing.

For navigating this tricky path in this weird and wonderful life that we live.

And for always just doing the best that you can with what you have and trusting that your best is enough.

Taking another beautiful deep cleansing breath in through your nose as you fill your belly up.

And letting that air trickle slowly again from the nose or from the mouth.

And taking a few more cleansing breaths like that,

Each inhale filling up the belly,

The ribcage,

The chest.

And if you want,

You can hold it for a few beats at the top.

And as you exhale,

Just exhale as if you're feeling like you're letting go.

Allowing each exhale to leave the body as if it's a surrender,

But as if it's also taking with you that feeling of stagnancy.

Just allowing every inhale to fill you up from belly to ribcage to chest.

And every exhale to just trickle gently from the body,

Leaving through the nose or the mouth.

And just imagining that with every inhale,

You are bringing in new life force,

New light,

Cleansing out the cells of your body.

And with every exhale,

There's a feeling of taking stagnancy with it.

There's a feeling of surrender and letting go.

Every exhale just removing that blockage,

Removing that feeling of immovability.

Every exhale,

Removing that sense of inertia.

Allowing those breaths to move through you.

At whatever pace feels natural for you.

Allowing those inhales to cleanse the body.

Allowing those exhales to remove that stagnancy.

Doing a few more cleansing breaths like that.

And with these last few,

Letting go of an audible sigh on the exhale.

Taking a deep breath in,

Filling the belly,

Ribcage and chest.

And let's hold for a moment at the top.

And as you exhale,

Letting go with a beautiful audible sigh.

Letting go of that stagnancy.

And inhale,

Breathing in,

Filling belly,

Ribcage and chest.

Hold for a moment.

And exhale.

And let's do two more like that.

Breathing fully into the belly,

The ribcage and the chest.

And as you exhale,

I want you to feel that inertia moving.

Creating space for movement in your body.

And the last one.

Inhale.

And exhale.

Just noticing how your body feels after those few breaths.

Noticing if there is any more space to maneuver within you.

Noticing if you are able to let go of that feeling of being held back or held down.

Noticing if you are able to let go of that feeling of stagnancy and inertia.

And even if it just happens ever so incrementally.

Just knowing that with each breath,

You are slowly unraveling until you can step out of that inertia.

As if stepping out of the bud of a blooming flower.

Back into your life.

Back into presence with your divine self.

Back into the wonder and magic of what it feels like to be alive.

To be in flow.

To be moving.

To be free from the clutches of inertia.

Thank you so much for spending this time with me today.
