Hi,

Welcome,

My name is Helen and I welcome you to today's teaching,

Today's lesson and meditation reflection on surrender.

If you're anything like me and if you recognize the following about perfectionism and being a high achiever,

Having a high achiever mindset,

Then this lesson,

This teaching,

This meditation especially is for you.

And being a high achiever or having a high achiever mindset,

Having some sort of perfectionism for me means that a lot of times I have great ideas,

I have great reflections and I have deep deep deep thinkings and ideas and intentions that I want to bring to the world to help others.

But on my way in getting that from the intention out there,

I struggle sometimes because I get caught up in details and perfectionism in knowing that I don't know everything,

That I don't hold all the answers to the intention I have.

I might have all kinds of thoughts about that,

Old systems,

Old patterns,

Saying that who am I to do that,

I don't know that much about this.

And the last couple of years I've been working on that theme,

Recognizing myself as a high achiever and therefore a lot of times not putting out into the world what I need to put into the world,

Out in the world.

For me the theme therefore today is surrender,

Because the other side of perfectionism and being a high achiever for me a lot of times means to surrender to what is.

In Buddhism surrender often means letting go of attachments and desires of control or perfectionism.

In other books like the Bhagavad Gita,

Surrender is about relinquishing the ego and dedicating actions to a higher purpose without attachment to the outcome.

This word also carries a sense of peace and acceptance for me,

Which is crucial when you're addressing perfectionism.

It's about,

It's not about giving up,

But more about allowing life to unfold without being overly fixated on the result.

And even when I'm making this meditation,

That's the lesson for me.

Surrender and trusting that what I have to bring in this meditation,

That that will resonate with the other side,

With you who's listening.

And that in itself is enough.

It doesn't have to be perfect.

It doesn't need to reach everybody.

I just have my intention and I put all my effort into making that into a good meditation.

And then I release,

I surrender and I let go of any expectations I would have on how you received this meditation and this lesson.

So again,

If you're anything like me and you get lost in details and old patterns in thinking and beating yourself up for not knowing,

Not being able to be there where you are or want to be in the future,

Not recognizing and surrendering to what is and what you do know.

And what you are able to bring,

Then meditate with me today and let's surrender just a little bit more than we did before we started this meditation.

And also that is the teaching.

It's a process.

It really is.

And that has like any wave in life is ups and downs and it's like peeling off an onion layer for layer.

So settle in.

Let's get really,

Really,

Really comfortable sitting or lying down would be perfect too.

As long as you're comfortable,

That's the most important part because when you're comfortable you'll probably come back or meditate more often.

Meditation can be comfortable.

It doesn't need to be uncomfortable.

Who would want to meditate in uncomfortable situations?

So start finding your spot,

Settling in and then let me guide you into this surrendering meditation.

Let's take a long,

Slow,

Deep breath in through our nose and effortlessly let that go.

Let's do that one more time.

Long,

Slow,

Deep breath in through our nose.

Now just let your breath go its natural way.

It would be great if you could breathe through your nostrils in and out.

But if that's not available to you,

Then breathe in whichever way you are able to.

Breathing through your nose and putting your attention on your tummy.

Long,

Slow,

Deep breath in helps you to lower your heart rate and that helps you to relax a little bit more.

And that helps you to surrender even more into this meditation,

Into your body.

So see whatever is available to you and that's perfect.

Just keep on breathing and without changing your breath,

See if you can witness your breath coming in through your nostrils,

Through your throat,

Filling up your lungs,

Filling up your belly.

And releasing it and how it leaves your body.

How your tummy just rises up and down.

How your lungs fill and release.

And notice on your breath in that the temperature of your in-breath is just a little cooler than the inside of your nostrils.

However you notice,

Just stay with your breathing in and breathing out and witness,

Notice how on your breath in,

It enters your body.

And on your breath out,

You release it and it leaves your body.

No need to change anything.

No need to work,

Just witness.

And as you're breathing in and out,

You might notice your body relaxing a little bit more.

Maybe your mind quieting just a little bit more.

Maybe you feel just a sense of,

There is nowhere else to be.

There is really nothing else you need to do right now than be here,

Right now,

In this moment.

Surrendering to your breath.

And noticing how you breathe in and how your breath leaves your body.

Maybe you notice a little bit tension in your chest or in your shoulders.

No need to fix anything.

No need to change.

Maybe on your in-breath you could just notice and on your breath out,

See if you can release a little bit of that tension.

By now you probably feel a little ease.

In this moment,

Just witnessing your breath in and out.

As soon as you notice that,

Your mind goes wandering off to other things than witnessing,

Noticing your breath.

And just effortlessly and gently guide your mind back to noticing your breathing.

There is really nothing else you need to do.

Be kind.

Don't sculpt yourself,

But gently guide yourself,

Your mind back to witnessing,

Noticing your breathing in and out.

It's okay that you are wandering off or get images,

Feelings come up,

Things on your to-do list for later come up,

Conversations you had yesterday.

It's normal when you are meditating that things like that come up.

The only thing you need to do is notice and gently guide yourself back to witnessing and noticing your breathing in and out.

Just gently keep breathing and noticing how your breath enters your body,

How it fills up your lungs and the inside of your body.

And when you release it,

What you notice in your body,

Maybe your whole breath coming up,

Leaving your body through your nostrils,

That's all you need to do.

Nothing else.

Surrender to this breath.

Surrender to this moment.

And just witness.

There is nothing else to do.

There is nowhere else to be.

But be here right now with your full attention.

And maybe by now you are even more relaxed,

More in a surrendering mindset.

Maybe you feel that you go deeper into that relaxation in your body,

Noticing your breath.

And effortlessly leaving your body.

That's all you need to do.

And gently guide yourself back as soon as you notice that you drifted off to thoughts,

Other sensations,

Stories.

Be kind,

It's perfectly okay,

It's perfectly normal that you drift off in meditation.

We all drift off to thoughts.

The key is to,

With all your love and attention,

Gently guide yourself back to the here and now.

Just witnessing your breath.

And surrendering to this moment here right now.

And on your next inhale see if you can breathe deep and very slow into your top.

Long,

Slow,

Deep breath in through our nose.

And effortlessly let that go.

Let's do that one more time.

Long,

Slow,

Deep breath in through our nose.

Deep,

Deep,

Deep into our belly.

And gently let that go.

One last time.

Long,

Slow,

Deep breath in through our nose.

And just let that go.

And now gently,

Slowly,

Effortlessly come back into your body,

Into the space that you're in.

And you may wiggle your feet,

Your toes and your hands.

Just keep your eyes closed for just a little bit more.

And then when it feels good,

When you're ready,

Open your eyes.

Maybe you meditated with your pet like I do.

I meditate with Fudge.

Or he meditates with me.

He always comes lay with me when I meditate.

There's some beauty in meditating with your pet.

So look around you,

In the space.

If he's ever there.

Maybe there's nobody but some lights coming in.

Just for one second notice how you feel.

Do you feel some more surrendering than you did before you started this meditation?

Maybe a little bit more ease in your body,

A little less tension,

A little bit more relaxation.

Know that anytime you feel like you're stuck in your perfectionism,

That you're stuck in your head.

Because you need to or want to do something perfectly and got stuck in the details.

Know that you can always take a step back.

Most of the time when you're caught up in your head,

That's not the point.

That's the best way to find your way and answers.

Sometimes taking a step back,

Even if that's for five minutes or one minute of breathing.

Just take yourself out of that situation.

Back to your breath and just witnessing your breath for one minute.

And then look back in the situation.

That helps a lot.

Getting new energy into the task you had going.

Sometimes that's just what you need to finish your project or you were working on.

Know that you can always take that step back and surrender just a little bit more.

You can always come back to this meditation.

If you like this and you surrendered and you felt more ease.

And surrendering in your body,

From your mind to your body.

Then know that you come back.

You can always meditate here with me again.

So thank you and have a beautiful rest of your day.

Namaste.

Namaste.

This meditation was so soothing and heartfelt. I loved how Heleen meditated with her dog Fudge—it felt so real and comforting. My dog Guinness does the same when I meditate or play my crystal bowls. This felt like a warm hug for my heart. Thank you, Heleen!
