Welcome to this meditation which will focus on healing,
Particularly when you need to go through some temporary pain to end or prevent long-term suffering.
For example,
You might find yourself needing to go to hospital for a procedure to fix a broken bone or remove some tissue that is causing you to be sick or a variety of other causes and conditions that wind you up needing medical intervention.
So the first thing that I want you to do is to gently close your eyes and see if you can relax your pupils,
The dark part of your eye.
See if you can get your eyes to stop moving underneath your eyelids.
To do this,
Sometimes it might help to focus your attention on the space between your eyes.
I want you to let your cheeks melt down to your jaw.
I want you to think about your teeth and I want you to separate your teeth and nestle your tongue at the bottom of your mouth.
Whatever breathing pattern is happening right now is perfectly okay.
See if you can detect the temperature of the air as you inhale through your nose.
It's ever so gently.
You're inhaling.
I want you to notice where the air goes in your body when you're inhaling.
I want you to notice where the air goes out when you're exhaling.
Can you inhale and see if you can feel your belly getting bigger when you inhale,
Even if it's just the teeniest,
Tiniest,
Quietest inhalation?
Inhale through your nose and your belly button gets big and pushes out.
Beautiful.
Now,
As you continue this relaxed position with your face and your natural breathing pattern,
I want you to think about relaxing your throat.
So the outside of your throat,
The skin and the muscles relax.
And the inside of your throat,
The tissues,
The back of your mouth,
Can just melt down like a ice cream or a popsicle melting down your throat.
Your muscles and tissues are going to do that too.
Yeah,
And you might notice yourself swallowing.
And so whatever feelings are bubbling up for you before your procedure are perfectly okay.
And I want you to know that you are safe.
And that your body knows just what to do to help you heal.
So the doctors will give you some help.
And then your body is going to jump in and take over once the doctors are done.
And so I want you to be so,
So,
So,
So brave and trusting as you surrender.
Your body and what's hurting it to the doctors who are helping,
And the nurses who are helping,
And your support system of people who are there holding your hand,
Putting their hand on their shoulder to tell you it's okay.
And all the people who love you,
Who aren't there thinking about you,
Who are there for you,
Who are there for you,
Who are there for you,
Who are there for you.
And I want you to slowly inhale for four counts in your nose.
I want you to hold it for four counts.
And then gently exhale out your mouth for six counts.
So inhale for four.
Hold for four.
Exhale out your mouth for six.
Do it again on your own.
Beautiful.
So when you start to feel unsure,
Or maybe a little bit anxious,
I want you to come back to this breath pattern.
We're going to exhale a little bit longer than we inhaled to tell our brain and our nervous system and our body that we're safe,
And that we're in good hands,
And that the doctors are here to help.
And it is probably going to be very uncomfortable for a very short time,
And that's okay.
It will not last.
The discomfort will not last.
And you can keep your thoughts calm by controlling your breath just like that.
The other thing that you can do as your eyes are closed and you're relaxing your face and relaxing your throat,
Is you can tap your thumb on your index finger,
And then tap your thumb on your middle finger.
Tap on your ring finger.
Tap on your pinky.
If you can do this with both hands,
Tap on your index,
Middle,
Ring,
Pinky.
Tap,
Tap.
And I invite you to do this.
For several minutes,
Maybe shorter,
Maybe longer,
Until you feel yourself relax into your body.
And at some point,
When your worried thoughts melt away,
I want you to think about putting your attention back in the center of your eyes,
Your eyes are closed,
You're looking into the darkness behind your eyelids,
Focusing your attention on the space between your eyes.
And then I want you to use the power of your imagination to go into the center of your brain,
Where we have so many healing systems in our body,
And our brain is going to tell those systems,
Our immune system,
That it's time to get to work.
And we have all of these glands and nodes all throughout our body,
And our brain is going to tell those nodes to start making white blood cells.
And your blood is going to push those white blood cells to the place where your body needs to heal.
So I want you to imagine there's a little conductor in the center of your brain,
Who's in charge,
And he starts telling your lymph nodes to rally the troops of white blood cells,
Who are going to charge to the site where your body needs to make a barrier against infection.
And your red blood cells need to start making new tissue.
And your body is so intelligent,
It knows how to do this all on its own.
And with the power of our imagination,
We can help it heal even quicker.
So we're going to keep bacteria and viruses out of our body,
And we're going to build new cells in our body.
And all of the sleep that we need to get will help us heal.
So I want you to imagine right now,
If you're able to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables,
Protein that will help our bodies heal,
Drinking plenty of water,
And feeling so safe and loved wherever you are.
