Welcome,
In this guided journey,
You will be invited to explore slow,
Intentional motion in your will-show.
Through breath,
Body awareness and gentle affirmations,
This practice helps you reconnect with your body's wisdom and honor its capacity to move,
Feel,
Adapt and rest.
This is not just a meditation,
It's a reclamation of space,
Movement and presence.
Inspired by traditional walking meditations,
This adaptive practice is designed for wheelchair users,
Centering the body exactly as it is.
Whether you roll an inch or a mile,
Whether your sensation is heightened,
Dulled or missing,
This is your space,
Your rhythm,
Your path.
Set an intention,
Today is about reconnecting with your body.
So often we direct frustration,
Grief or disappointment towards the parts of ourselves that feel different,
The parts that no longer move how they once did or that we wish we could feel again.
Today is about cherishing what is here,
Not about what's missing,
The parts of you that support you every day,
The strength,
The sensation,
The rhythm that is uniquely yours.
Before we begin,
Find a space where you can roll forward with ease.
It doesn't have to be too long,
But free from obstacles,
A hallway,
An open room,
A smooth path outdoors,
Somewhere where you feel safe,
Supported and undisturbed.
When you're ready,
Settle into your seat,
Allow your body to rest into the support beneath you.
Adjust anything that needs adjusting,
Your cushion,
Your posture,
Your arms.
Lower your gaze softly,
Make sure you can still see the space in front of you clearly.
This is your path,
Your space to move,
Your space to be.
Feel the texture beneath your palms,
The connection between your body and the wheels that carry you.
Sit as upright as you comfortably can,
Gently rising like a flower growing towards the sun.
Relax your body,
Using only as much effort as needed.
Let your posture reflect presence,
Not perfection.
Now,
Bring your full awareness to your breath,
Feel the way your body moves as you inhale and exhale.
Notice the sensations within,
Where you feel tightness,
Pressure,
Even the pain,
Where you feel nothing at all,
Where comfort or lightness lives.
Simply notice,
No judgement,
No need to change.
And if it feels natural,
Guide your breath gently into those areas,
Like sending warmth to a place that's been waiting to be seen.
Notice the temperature around you,
Is there a breeze on your skin,
A warmth on your arms?
Let yourself become deeply aware of your body within this space,
Held,
Supported and alive.
And when you feel ready,
Begin to slowly roll forward.
Notice the movement of your arms,
Hands and forearms as they meet their rims,
Feel its texture,
The pressure,
The effort.
Let each movement be slow and deliberate,
Not to get somewhere,
But to feel everything along the way.
As you move,
Bring gentle awareness to your trunk,
Engage your core to any extent that feels available to you.
Let your center guide your movement,
Not just your arms pushing the wheels,
But your whole body moving as one,
Stable,
Balanced,
Connected.
Be mindful of the force in your hands as they push the rims.
Is one hand working harder than the other?
Does one side lead while the other follows?
Just observe,
Feel the balance or imbalance with curiosity.
Let each movement be guided by your breath,
A gentle inhale and a steady exhale.
Breathe into your body,
Let the comfort lead the way,
Letting the movement flow with ease and presence.
Let this become your rhythm,
Your body,
Your chair and your breath all in quiet harmony.
And if your mind begins to wander,
That's ok.
Whenever you drift into that thought,
Gently bring your attention back to your body and your hands.
You are here now,
In this moment,
In this movement.
And if at any point you feel the need to stop,
That's ok,
This practice is yours.
Even stillness can be part of the movement,
And when you do move,
Let it be slow,
Let every motion hold your full attention.
Today you are here to appreciate your body,
Just as it is in this moment,
Like the entire world exists in that one gentle push.
Honor your freedom of movement,
To whatever extent it's available for you.
It doesn't have to look a certain way,
It only has to be yours.
Acknowledge the quiet power your body holds,
Not in perfection,
But in adaptation,
In the way it finds new paths,
New rhythms,
New ways to carry you forward.
As we come to the end of this movement meditation,
I invite you to take a moment of stillness,
To breathe,
To feel and to affirm.
Let these words rise not as demands,
But as gentle truths you can return to.
Repeat them silently or out loud,
Whatever feels right to you.
My body allows me to perform to its best ability.
It's ok if my energy changes.
I listen to my body and allow rest when needed.
My body does its best every day to support me.
I am enough the way I am.
I grow at my own pace and that is perfectly ok.
I honor the wisdom of my body,
Even when it whispers.
I am allowed to take up space,
To move how I move,
To be who I am.
Rest is not a weakness,
It is a part of rhythm and growth.
Take one more deep breath in and a slow breath out.
Begin to gently bring your awareness back into your body.
Scan through your body with softness,
What sensations are present now?
What emotions?
Is there ease?
Is there relief?
Simply notice how you feel after the time with yourself.
Feel the points where your body meets the chair,
Your seat,
Your back,
Your hands.
Let these contact points become your roots,
Gently anchoring you to this moment.
This too is grounding,
The quiet trust that Earth supports you.
Thank you so much for joining me in this moment of wheelchair movement and presence.
