Welcome to this mindfulness meditation for dealing with setbacks and for staying focused on your long-term goals.

I invite you now to find a comfortable and quiet space where you won't be disturbed for the next little bit of time.

Sit in a relaxed yet alert posture or lie down if that's more comfortable for you.

Once you've found your place of rest,

You may close your eyes.

Let's begin by taking a deep breath in,

Filling your lungs completely and exhaling slowly.

Try and have your exhale be longer than your inhale.

This will help calm your nervous system.

Let go of any tension you might be holding in your body.

And then when you're ready,

Take another deep breath in.

And as you exhale,

Release any thoughts or worries that may be on your mind right now.

Now bring your attention to the present moment.

Feel the weight of your body on the chair or cushioned or ground.

Notice the sensation of your breath as you breathe in and breathe out.

Allow yourself to be fully present in this moment,

Letting go of the past and the future.

And as you continue to breathe,

Reflect on a recent setback or a challenge that you faced.

Acknowledge any emotions that come up without judgment.

It's okay to feel whatever you're feeling.

Breathe into those emotions.

Give yourself the space to experience them fully in your breath.

As you continue to breathe,

I'd like you to imagine that setback as a passing cloud in the sky.

See it drifting away,

Slowly disappearing into the vast expanse.

Remind yourself that setbacks are temporary,

Just like clouds in the sky.

They come and go,

But the sky remains constant and unchanged.

Now bring your awareness to your long-term goals.

Picture them in your mind as vividly as possible.

See the success,

The growth,

And the fulfillment associated with achieving these goals that you set for yourself.

Connect with the positive emotions that arise when you envision the success.

As you focus on your goals,

Recognize that setbacks are not roadblocks,

But detours on the path to your destination.

Embrace the idea that challenges are opportunities for growth and learning.

Just as a tree becomes stronger in the face of the wind,

You too can become more resilient through the challenges that you encounter.

Now return your attention to your breath.

Inhale deeply,

Drawing in positive energy and resilience.

And then exhale any remaining tension or doubt.

And then with each breath,

Feel a renewed sense of determination and focus on your long-term goals.

As you continue to breathe,

Bring to mind the steps that you can take to overcome the current setback.

Break down the challenge into smaller,

Manageable tasks.

Consider the resources and support available to you.

And as always,

Trust in your ability to navigate through difficult times.

Shift your perspective from the setback to the lesson it offers.

What can you learn from this experience?

How can it contribute to your personal and professional growth?

Allow yourself to find meaning and purpose in the face of adversity.

Now as we approach the end of this meditation,

Bring your awareness back to the present.

Feel the ground beneath you,

The air around you,

And the gentle rhythm of your breath.

And then when you're ready,

You can slowly open your eyes if you have them closed.

Spend a little bit of time just kind of moving,

Doing some small stretches.

Just getting that body back in the present moment.

And then just,

I want you to carry the sense of mindfulness and resilience with you as you go about your day.

Remember that setbacks are not the end,

But a part of the journey.

Stay focused on your goals and with each step forward,

Know that you are moving closer to the fulfillment of your aspirations.
