Good morning,
Greetings,
And welcome.
I wanted to start just by talking a little bit about sort of the inspiration and the basis for this meditation.
And it comes from a tantric text,
The Radiant Sutras,
Which is just a beautiful scripture and expose that really just invites a sort of love and different perspective maybe than the classic texts that are all about renunciation and pushing things away.
So this tantric perspective,
Contrary to popular belief,
Is not all about sex.
In this perspective,
It's more about drawing things in,
Becoming part of that which permeates all of creation and really expanding outside of yourself.
Hence why this meditation is called a spacious meditation.
So it's not a space meditation.
We're not meditating on stars and galaxies and all of that,
But rather it's kind of inviting a spaciousness into your being.
So I wanted to start by reading two of the verses,
And hopefully they're out there somewhere in the digital universe if you'd like to find them.
If not,
I definitely recommend the translation by,
I think it's Lauren Roache,
Absolutely wonderful translation,
Really nice compiled work.
So the first sutra,
That's number 69.
And it says,
Meditate on self as being vast as the sky,
A body of energy extending forever in all directions,
Above,
Below,
All around.
In the embrace of infinite space awaken to your true form,
Divine creative energy,
Revealing herself as you.
The second one is 106.
And it reads,
Set your mind free to wander anywhere it wants.
Think of any thought,
Ride any wave,
Surge in any direction.
The instant a thought springs up,
Abandon it,
And move on.
Don't let the mind rest anywhere.
In this way gain entry to the bliss of the silent depths beneath the surf.
And as I'm sitting here,
Actually 105 is really incredible too.
And this maybe brings the sort of bridges,
Our metaphysical sort of spaciousness and the space that we often think of as being above us and again having to do with the stars.
So I'd like to read 105 for you as well.
And it reads,
When you gaze and wonder at the stars become enthralled with the vast spaciousness between them,
Space is an incomprehensible being,
An invisible presence,
Independent,
Independently wealthy,
Without beginning or end and giving.
Space bestows an unbounded theater for suns,
Planets,
Constellations to dance in their graceful orbits.
Space offers you an infinite arena to play,
Explore,
And experience.
May you receive this gift of freedom.
So if you haven't yet,
I invite you to be comfortable.
Whether that's in a seated place with the spine nice and straight or a reclined place,
Maybe with the knees supported.
Only crossing the legs if that's a natural position for you.
Continuing to make any adjustments in the physical body.
Both in this moment,
Maybe wiggling through sit bones,
Adjusting shoulders.
But throughout this practice,
Continuing to make those physical adjustments and prioritize the physical body's comfort.
Softening the jaw,
Inviting the breath simply to move through you.
And each breath dropping into the body just a little bit more.
As you exhale down,
Sending the breath down into sit bones,
Down through the legs,
Inviting that release of breath to carry you down into earth,
Down into that support beneath you.
Softening into that support.
And with each exhale,
It's much like a stone sort of drawing through water until it softly lands on the bottom of a pond.
In this case,
It's much like dropping down from your head to feel where the breath moves the body.
In the chest,
The shoulders,
The belly,
Welcoming presence into the core,
The center of your being.
And floating awareness down just as a stone floats through water.
Being held by that ever present support beneath the body.
Riding the waves of the breath.
The movement of inhale and exhale.
The current that moves through the breath.
Observing how the skin expands with every breath.
Breath of life moving through you.
And with each exhale,
It's much like a stone.
Noticing the pause,
That bit of stillness within the body.
And the breath.
There it rests at the top of your inhale,
The bottom of your exhale.
That momentary suspension in doing.
Inviting yourself to rest into that pause,
Into thatesque Breeze of your nose.
