This will be the first in a series of spontaneous meditations, each of which pointing to the stillness-presence of Being. As we increasingly move away from the focus of the physical mind through the pointings of these meditations, we open ourselves to the formless nature of our inherent presence, one's inseparable and timeless awareness. Each meditation will have a different pointing, all bringing an increasing recognition of the stillness and silence of our boundless spacious nature.

This meditation will be called the freedom of presence,

Number one.

So we're sitting relaxed.

And in this first moment,

Just quietly follow your breath,

A nice deep inhalation.

And then at the top of your breath,

Pause for a moment,

And then exhale.

As you breathe in,

Take your awareness directly into the heart center.

In this space of being,

All is still and calm.

We are not thinking of today's activities.

We are coming together in stillness to simply be,

Be open and free without thought.

If a thought appears,

It will be like a cloud in the sky that quietly passes.

And once it has passed,

We return back to the stillness and the vastness of our being.

This awareness has not arrived.

It is what we are inherently behind all thoughts and perceiving.

And as we bring our attention to the breath,

We simply return to our natural state,

Inseparable awareness.

This awareness of being is dimensionless,

Timeless,

Spacious,

And eternal.

It has no form.

It simply is.

It is still and silent.

And as we rest in this stillness,

We may find the body feels lighter.

And yet,

We are not focusing on the body.

The body is simply an instrument.

It is an appearance in the infinite,

Inseparable awareness.

And we will come to recognize that our imperturbable awareness is like a screen upon which a movie is being played.

And regardless of what the characters in the movie may be,

None of them touch or affect the screen.

None.

And so it is with us.

Whatever experiences,

Whatever perceptions,

Whatever points of view we may come across each day,

None of them touch or affect the wholeness and the pure nature of our inseparable awareness.

All is simply a play of characters and situations,

And we are the witness,

Unmoved and untouched.

And within this field of awareness,

Within the presence of this stillness and vastness,

We are whole.

There are no labels.

Nothing actually exists in the infinite spaciousness of our being.

This stillness,

This vastness,

Is the very source of our intelligence,

Our wisdom,

Our spontaneity.

And now that we are aware of our deeper presence,

We no longer need to be affected by or to rely on the physical mind,

Or whatever we do perceive will be through the filters of a mind that has been taught and believes in being a separate identity.

But now,

As the field of infinite,

Imperturbable awareness,

We no longer are impacted by these veils,

For now we are the presence of the natural mind,

The eternal,

The infinite and the boundless.

So this now is our awareness.

This is our presence as we enter the day.

We are aware.

We are inwardly calm and still.

We carry peace in our heart.

We are the living essence of our timeless being.

And whatever expression that may be,

It will be unique for each and every one of us.

And now to finish this exercise,

Just take another long deep breath,

Hold it for a moment at the top of your breath,

And when you are ready,

Exhale.

Exhale.
