Welcome to this short practice for when you are ready to clear a little space in your creative life,
In your mind,
Or simply in the way you see yourself and the world around you.
We will begin with a grounding breath practice,
Then move into a ball of light visualization to gently clear and settle the body and mind.
From there,
We will move into an art prompt called a clear view,
Along with journaling prompts to help you integrate your experience.
Let us begin.
Find a comfortable seat with the feet flat on the floor,
Legs crossed,
Whatever allows your body to feel supported right now.
Allow your hands to rest softly in your lap,
With the palms up or down,
Whichever feels natural.
You may close your eyes if that feels comfortable or soften your gaze toward the floor.
Begin simply by noticing your breath,
Not changing it yet,
Just noticing the natural rhythm of the inhale and the exhale.
Notice where the breath is moving in your body.
Is it staying high near the collarbones?
Or can you feel it moving down into the heart space,
Or even the belly?
Begin now to breathe a little more deeply if you are not already.
Notice the gentle expansion on the inhale,
With a brief pause at the top and then exhale,
A nice long quiet release.
Continue for a few rounds of breath.
On the next exhale,
Imagine a warm ball of light at the base of the spine and the tailbone,
And as you inhale,
Move that ball of light up the front of the spine,
As high as it will go,
And then immediately exhaling,
Moving the ball of light down the back of the spine.
Until it reaches the tailbone and the full exhale,
Then you'll inhale again,
Ball of light moves up the front of the spine,
As high as it will go without force,
And then exhaling,
Ball of light moves down the back of the spine.
Continue for a few rounds of breath.
Notice where the ball of light wants to pause.
Is it in the torso somewhere?
Is it moving all the way to the crown of the head?
There's no right or wrong,
Just avoid force.
Just notice where the ball wants to pause,
But keep it moving as you seamlessly inhale and exhale.
Now imagine as the ball of light moves upward that it's like a little vacuum or a magnet,
And it attracts things like fear,
Worry and negativity.
And then imagine as it moves down the back of the spine that it creates space for openness and ease,
Calmness.
Continue.
The next time the ball of light moves up and into the heart center,
Allow it to pause,
And you can allow your breath to come back to natural.
Simply observe the ball of light as it expands.
Imagine that it expands out through the arms and legs,
Out through the crown of the head.
Imagine it surrounds you fully and completely.
Notice the warmth and experience of this beautiful ball of white light as it surrounds you.
Here,
It is safe to explore the idea of your true self,
And it is safe for creative expression.
As you stay within this ball of light,
I invite you to consider what has been clouding your view lately.
It might be mental clutter,
Such as half-formed ideas,
Unfinished projects,
Thoughts that run a loop beneath everything else.
It might be something in your creative space,
Like accumulated materials,
Old work,
Or systems that once served you but now just create noise.
Or it might be something subtler,
A story about yourself,
A creative identity you've been wearing that no longer quite fits,
Just notice what surfaces.
Without needing to fix it or resolve it right now,
Simply acknowledging,
Yes,
This is here,
And it's clouding my view a little or a lot.
Now,
Notice if you feel this anywhere in your body.
Perhaps you experience this as a tightening or gripping sensation in your jaw,
Your face,
Or your limbs.
Perhaps it feels like a weight or heaviness in your heart,
Belly,
Or shoulders.
Or perhaps just the opposite,
Maybe you notice a sense of readiness,
A lightness that is asking to be honored.
These are things that obscure or cloud your view of the world and of yourself.
They are like bugs and fog on a windshield,
But they can be cleared.
Your mindfulness practice and your creative practice are things that clear the windshield.
Let's take one more full breath in,
And on the exhale,
Imagine that the view becomes clear.
As you continue with the natural breath,
Now notice what becomes visible when the windshield becomes clear.
Is the world lighter or brighter?
Do you see or sense a word?
Do you feel safer or more confident?
Hold these questions softly and notice what surfaces when asked.
What becomes visible when the windshield of your life becomes clear?
When you're ready,
Bring some gentle movement back into your fingers and toes,
And let your eyes open softly.
Today's art prompt is a clear view.
Create an image of a window or a windshield and your experience of the world as seen through the clean glass.
You might actually find it interesting to create the dirty windshield with the dust splatter,
The dead bugs,
And the hazy interior.
But do also try to capture what becomes visible when the view out the window is unclouded.
What is clearer,
Simpler,
Or brighter to you now?
This might be a landscape or a color field.
It might be a single shape that carries a feeling.
It might be a word or a symbol or something entirely abstract.
Let your first instinct lead.
And when you're done,
Journal with these questions.
What does this view tell you about where you want to go next?
And what is one thing,
One physical space,
One cluttered thing on your calendar,
One thought pattern,
That can consciously be released this week so that you can experience yourself or your life with a little more clarity?
I'll repeat those questions again.
These are simply a suggestion for journaling.
You do not need to answer each one specifically.
But as you complete your artwork,
You might consider,
What does this view tell you about where you want to go next?
And what is one thing,
One physical space,
One cluttered thing on your calendar,
Or a thought pattern,
That can consciously be released this week so that you can experience yourself or your life with a little more clarity?
As we close today's practice,
Thank you for taking a few moments of stillness and for honoring your creative self so that you might see a little more clearly.
The goodness in me honors the goodness in you.
