The Hashma is an ancient Hebrew prayer that comes from the Torah,
The Hebrew Bible.
In the Kabbalah tradition,
The Shema is an invocation that calls us to experience directly the oneness of all reality.
The words of the chant are Shema Yisrael Adonai Elohino Adonai Echad.
The word Shema means hear or listen,
And it calls us to drop in and connect to our inner depth.
The word Yisrael means one who wrestles with God.
Adonai or Yut He Vav He means is,
Was,
Will be,
And points to the formless,
Unmanifest nature of reality.
Elohenu,
Our God,
Represents all the forms that manifest in the realm of creation.
Adonai Echad,
All of being,
All that is,
Is one.
This chant is calling us to listen deeply and experience directly that there is no division in the fabric of reality.
The formless is the form,
The transcendent is the immanent,
The unmanifest is the manifest,
The spiritual is the material.
All is one.
So having found a comfortable position,
Take a few full breaths,
And as you release,
Drop into a deeper place.
As I chant the Shema several times slowly,
Feel free to join me or just allow the ancient words and the sacred vibrations they carry to touch you.
Notice how it impacts your experience and your state of consciousness.
At the conclusion of the chant,
We'll sit in silence for a few minutes,
Absorbing the presence generated by the practice.
And then I'll ring the bell to mark the end of the practice.
Adonai Echad.
Shema Yisra'el.
Adonai Elohe.
Adonai Elohe.
Adonai.
Adonai.
Echad.
Echad.
Echad.
