Thank you so much for taking a moment out of your day to spend together.
In today's poetry reading,
We will be discussing the topic of feeling misunderstood.
So the title of today's poem is,
I share.
I am weeping on the inside,
Struggling,
Feeling so misunderstood.
Am I wrong or are you just discomforted by my presence?
Struggling.
When you look at me,
You see your constructed narrative of me.
It is not me that you see.
I am free,
Intentionally.
Join me if you choose.
And please don't jibe.
Your words are a force and sometimes chafe when thoughtlessly misplaced.
I will not crawl in the box in which you see fit for me to stay.
I chip at the frame with questions.
I pull out the nails with my teeth.
I swing open the door in consciousness.
Your misery I will not eat.
I share.
As we mull over the thought of feeling misunderstood,
I would like us to take a few moments as different questions are posed.
As we go through our questions,
Please feel free to journal your responses,
To send me a voice note in response to which it would be my honor to respond to,
Or just to think about your responses.
Our first question is,
What or who am I grieving?
Sometimes due to how fast life is moving or how fast we are moving through life,
We can forget or not make room to grieve.
And our unexpressed grief lodges itself within us.
What am I struggling with on the inside that I have yet to give voice to?
So many things happen to us in life with or without our consent.
Some things we summon the courage to address and other things stay with us on the inside.
Do I feel seen?
Do I feel heard?
We often have expectations of those closest to us in our lives,
Expressed or unexpressed.
Nevertheless,
The expectation remains.
Even in our most intimate or in our closest relationships,
We can sometimes go unseen or unheard.
And that can create resentment,
But it can also create an opportunity to give those things to ourselves.
So to rephrase,
In what way can I make myself feel seen today within me?
And in what way can I make myself feel heard today within me?
Let us know that our creator,
Abba Father,
Sees us,
Hears us,
And is awaiting connection with us.
Feel together as we contemplate,
Journal,
Or respond to those questions.
Let's breathe in and out.
Please know that these aren't questions that you have to have an immediate response to.
One of my favorite quotes is,
That's just a thought.
Now it's time for you to do the dishes.
So thought for the day,
You do the dishes.
And I love that because it communicates that one,
This is just something to consider.
And it's something for you to consider within yourself.
So our concluding thought for the day is,
When light finds its way within us,
It may leave stars.
Again,
When night finds its way within us,
It may leave stars.
Night is often associated with darkness.
But we forget that in darkness,
We have the moon,
And we have stars.
And while things may seem cloudy,
There's always hope that present itself in interesting ways.
So what stars have illuminated your night sky?
I would love to hear them.
I express my gratitude to you once again.
Thank you for walking with me hand in hand in this journey as we move through and grow through and heal through our emotions.
And I look forward to seeing you at the next bend in the road.
See you then.
You
