Welcome,
I'm Dr.
Kim.
Today we're going to work with your liver,
Your energy or qi,
And your body's natural ability to release anger and return to peace.
In traditional Chinese medicine,
The liver stores anger and frustration.
It also governs the flow of qi around your body.
When liver energy is stuck,
It can create tightness along your ribs,
Irritability,
Shallow breathing,
Tension in the jaw and shoulders,
Chronic pain and a sense of being stuck in your life.
Anger is not meant to be held in the body.
Somatically it shows up as tension in your shoulders,
Chest,
Jaw and ribs.
Releasing it allows your nervous system to reset and open space for clarity,
Peace and vitality.
Everyone can benefit from liver work.
Our intention for this session is simple,
To release what no longer serves you,
To restore flow and to feel grounded in your body again through simple movement and meditation.
Begin by finding a comfortable seated position on a chair or on the ground.
Close your eyes.
Take a slow inhale through your nose,
Letting your belly rise.
Take a long exhale through your nose.
Bring your awareness to your right side,
Right at your lower ribs,
The area where your liver lives.
Allow your breath to flow directly to this space.
Inhale,
Filling your liver with gentle energy.
Exhale,
Letting the tension melt away.
Relax your forehead,
Unclench your jaw and let your shoulders drop away from your ears.
Now start to shake your hands and wrists.
Flick them downwards towards the floor.
Allow your body to settle into a rhythm here as you continuously flick,
Flick,
Flick.
Let the vibrations run through your body.
Feel the weight leaving your ribs,
Chest and back.
Deep breaths here.
Imagine the negative emotions being shaken and flicked off your liver.
Smooth breaths.
Last few flicks and bring your arms to a rest.
Straighten your spine.
Stretch your right arm up above you,
Flexing your wrist like you're pushing the ceiling upwards.
Feel that stretch all the way down to your chest.
All the way through your right ribs,
Shoulder and arm.
Now relax your right arm down and lift the left,
Stretching the arm up towards the ceiling,
Flexing your wrist,
Stretching through your left side.
Inhale,
Change arms.
Exhale as you push your right arm to the ceiling.
Inhale as you swap.
Exhale as you push your left arm up to the ceiling.
Inhale,
Swap.
Exhale,
Right arm up.
Inhale,
Swap.
Exhale,
Left arm up.
Continue breathing and moving in this way.
Allow your movements to flow nice and smoothly.
Imagine tension leaving your ribs as you stretch from side to side.
Breathe out any held frustration,
Anger and resentment with your breath.
Continue flowing with this movement.
And last few reps,
Bring your body back to centre and let your arms relax.
Deep breath in and all the way out,
Just noting the changes you're noticing in your body.
Now place both of your hands over your lower ribs.
Inhale.
As you exhale,
Bend your torso to the right side.
Inhale to centre.
Exhale.
Side bend to the left.
Inhale to centre.
Exhale to the right.
Inhale to centre.
Exhale to the right.
Continue breathing and side bending.
Relaxing all the way through your ribs from your shoulder down to your hips.
Enjoy this stretch.
Feel your torso become looser with every stretch.
Relax your forehead.
Allow yourself to smile if this feels good to you.
Fully enjoy every sensation you're eliciting in your body.
And last stretch.
Come back to centre.
We're going to make the liver healing sound.
Which is a sound like you're telling someone to be quiet.
Inhale through your nose.
As you exhale,
Let your breath come out with a Let the sound carry out your anger and tension.
Again,
Inhale.
All the way out.
Feel the sound vibrate through your head,
Neck,
Chest and liver.
Allow the sound to carry out negativity into the air.
Continue making this liver cleansing sound.
Create your own rhythm.
Breathing as quickly or as slowly as you like.
Making the sound as forceful or as peaceful as you like.
And last release.
Let it all go.
And bring your breath back to normal.
Rub your hands together.
Bring your energy to your palms.
Now place your palms directly over your liver.
Right over your right lower ribs.
Feel the warmth of your palms on your skin.
Imagine your liver bathed in a warm golden light.
With each breath,
See the light expand through your body.
Flowing up through your chest,
Opening your heart.
Spreading through your shoulders and arms,
Down to your fingertips.
Down into your belly,
Hips and legs.
The tension,
Frustration and trapped emotions have left your body.
Feel your body becoming spacious,
Light and open.
See your Qi move freely around your system.
Feel your nervous system calm.
Your liver,
Your energy,
Your entire body flowing freely.
Rest in this open space.
Notice how your breath feels.
Notice how your heart,
Chest and ribs are soft,
Expanded,
At ease.
This is your new frequency.
Calm,
Flowing,
Open.
To support your liver after this practice,
Drink a warm cup of liver-supporting tea.
Like dandelion,
Milk thistle or chrysanthemum.
Let it nourish your system and integrate this release.
If possible,
Also take a gentle walk outside in nature.
You have released what no longer serves you.
Your liver is more open.
Your energy is flowing.
Your nervous system calm.
Remember,
Anger is energy.
Release it,
Transmute it and you make space for peace,
Clarity and vitality.
Slowly open your eyes.
May you carry this feeling with you throughout your day.
Thank you for practicing with me.
See you tomorrow.
Namaste.
