Making friends with our mind.
Welcome and let's start by taking a nice deep breath in with the straight spine,
Level head,
Filling the stomach,
The chest,
And the clavicle,
And then completely exhaling,
Pulling the belly button towards the spine.
Exhaling any connectivity we have right now with the past or the future and just sitting in the now.
And as we continue to breathe deeply,
Let's close our eyes and begin to watch those thoughts,
Often described as like clouds in the sky just allowing them to pass by.
Thoughts which are unthreatening.
They're not thunder clouds or lightning clouds.
As thoughts,
They are immaterial.
They have not been brought into action yet,
And therefore they're no threat.
Allowing them to pass by,
Just taking a look at each of them instantaneously.
To start to get to know our thinking better,
Our mind better.
Our mind is a muscle that can only do one thing,
And that's think.
So instead of trying to shut our mind out,
Telling our mind not to do what it's been created to do,
Telling our mind not to be itself.
Let's take a few minutes now to become friends with our mind and with those thoughts.
And as we settle into watching our thoughts,
Let's start to view our mind as a small child.
A small child who's always seeking our attention.
Whether it were at work,
Whether we're at home trying to complete a task,
Or whether we're just laying in bed trying to go to sleep.
The mind is like that small child who isn't trying to annoy us,
Isn't trying to burden us,
But is just innately seeking our attention,
Hoping to receive some compassion and love and recognition of itself.
And so as we would treat such a small child,
Let's start to treat our mind and its thoughts with a loving gaze and compassionate embrace,
Letting it know that right now we've got other things to do that need to be done.
And that unfortunately we're not going to be able to spend time focusing on its ever thought,
On all of its whims,
And on its continuous chatter.
And then as you envision your mind as this small child,
Lift the child up in your arm and snuggle it into your chest and open your heart and let your mind know that you love it,
You appreciate it,
But that you're in charge and that you will avail yourself to its thoughts when need be.
As we set our mind back into its place,
Gazing at it lovingly,
Let's take a nice deep breath in and release it.
Be well.
