In this exercise, we will employ different methods to alleviate a headache, quickly. One of the main root causes of headaches is tension and/or misalignment through the fascia and muscles, as well as overworking a certain area of muscles. Being in a state of the sympathetic drive, also known as "fight or flight", or anxiety, also contributes. Finally, when we aren't slowing down to take deep, restorative breaths - we miss an opportunity to deliver oxygen and release stress from the parts of us that are hurting. In this session, we will address each of these root causes of headache one by one: 1.) Muscle contraction and release 2.) Parasympathetic breath 3.) Self-massage.

Hello and welcome.

My name is Yaesha and you have found yourself here because you are currently experiencing a headache or migraine.

So let's get right to it.

If it's available to you,

Go ahead and take a lie down.

If that's not available to you,

Find a position that brings you the most comfort possible.

We'll begin with an exercise that sounds a bit counterintuitive,

But trust me when I say it will allow tension and pain to release from your body.

When I cue you,

You will contract and flex the muscles of the arms.

You will bring your fists into a ball,

Shrug your shoulders up towards your ears,

And squish your face muscles and contracting all these muscles as tightly as you possibly can for about five seconds.

And then we'll release and let go of all of that tension.

So here we go.

Go ahead and contract,

Shrug your shoulders up towards your ears,

Ball your fists up,

Flex your biceps,

Squeeze the muscles of your face,

One more second,

Squeeze,

Squeeze,

Squeeze,

And let it all go.

Let it go.

Let the tension release and fall away from you.

Allow yourself to sink into whatever surface you are sitting or lying upon.

Two more times.

Here we go.

Contract,

Contract,

Contract,

Ball those fists,

Squeeze,

Squeeze,

Squeeze,

Shrug your shoulders as tight as you can.

Everything is flexing,

Contracting as much as possible.

Don't forget the muscles of the face.

One more second.

Here we go.

And let it all go.

We are capable of releasing just as much as we are capable of contracting.

Last time.

Here we go.

Contract,

Contract,

Contract,

Ball those fists up,

Squeeze as hard as you possibly can,

Squeeze the muscles of the face.

One more second and contract,

Contract and release.

Let it go.

Allow yourself to sink into whatever surface your body is connected to.

Let the tension roll off your body.

Let it go.

Bring your attention now to your pelvic floor.

Take a deep inhale in through your nose and send your breath to your pelvis.

Soften and release through the pelvic floor and the pelvis.

Exhale,

Let it go.

One more breath like that.

There's a very strong connection between tension and contraction in the pelvic floor and headaches.

So if we can go to what may potentially be the root of the problem,

It can help alleviate the tension we're feeling in our necks and our heads.

Beautiful.

Bring your awareness up your spine and to your shoulder blades.

Let them soften and release.

Imagine someone is gently pressing your shoulders down,

Down,

Down.

Their touch allows any tension to gently melt away.

Bring the palms of your hands together and rub them together.

Now,

Keeping your eyes closed or closing them if they aren't already,

Cup your hands over your eyes and allow the space behind your eyeballs to soften.

Soften and release any tension from the space with the help of the energy you just created with your hands.

Let it go.

Let it go.

Now bring your fingertips to your temples and gently create circular motions here.

And with each circle,

Allow these muscles to soften more and release any tension underneath the muscle,

The fascia.

Gently work your fingertips down to your jaw,

To the top of your jaw,

And create those same circular motions here,

Finding any points of tenderness,

Of tension,

And allowing your touch to soften this area.

Now place one hand on the area where you feel the most pain right now.

Allow the energy from your hand to radiate into this point of discomfort.

Send yourself loving,

Healing energy and feel the pain slowly dissipate and decrease under the guidance of your embracing touch.

When that feels complete,

You will transition to a breath pattern that you will stay with for as long as it serves you.

Inhale for four slow seconds and exhale for eight seconds.

This type of breath will help shift you into the parasympathetic nervous system,

Which will bring relaxation and help you to release any last lingering bits of stress and tension.

We'll do one round together.

Inhale through your nose for 1,

2,

3,

4.

Gently exhale for 1,

2,

3,

4,

5,

6,

7,

8.

Stay with this breath for in,

Heat out for as long as feels good.

Thank you for being here.

I hope that you're feeling better than you were just a few minutes ago.
