This practice releases all the effort to get anywhere, releases the need to change anything, releases the need to release thoughts. Can I do even less? We use mantra “ram” as a gentle focus on surrender and then “shrim” to move into receptive mode. My gratitude to Emily Fletcher of Ziva Meditation for the inspiration. Photo by Ben Wicks on Unsplash

Let's make ourselves comfortable.

Arms and legs finding a comfortable spot we can rest.

If we're sitting let's put our back into the chair,

Firmly planted in the chair,

Feet on the floor if we can.

And a couple of breaths.

The next time we inhale we're going to get a little bit taller.

There's a bit more room in our spine around our chest.

Exhaling softening into the seat a little.

Our shoulders softening,

Muscles of our face softening.

Then we'll find the breath.

So we're going to use the silver technique to come into a more relaxed,

Healthier state of being.

Excuse me.

So let's relax our body.

Imagining our body softening and releasing.

The face,

The scalp becoming softer.

Our jaw softening.

Head balanced on the top of the spine so we'll use minimum muscles to hold it up.

Shoulders are releasing.

Arms and hands are soft and still.

So we flow down,

Chest and the spine falling into a neutral place.

Excuse me.

A belly softening,

Lower back supported.

Hips and thighs.

Solid base for us to rest on.

Knees at a comfortable angle.

Lifts and feet at rest.

Whole body a little bit softer.

Quiet and still.

Let's find some mental relaxation then to join our body.

So let's imagine a place we love to be.

It might be an imaginary place or a real place.

Somewhere we go often,

Somewhere we just went once.

It doesn't really matter where it is.

What matters is it feels wonderful.

And we're at ease.

Seeing the things there are to see there.

Experiencing what we feel there.

Experiencing what there is to experience the things that we love there.

We're feeling more physically and mentally relaxed in a healthier state of being.

I'm going to count now from 10 down to 1.

And with each step we're going to imagine we're going down a flight of steps.

We're becoming a little more relaxed with each step.

Putting aside our worries for a few moments to be with the practice as best we can.

Bodies peaceful.

Mind is becoming quieter as we embrace this peace.

Feeling in a more relaxed,

Healthier state of being.

I offer you the mantra.

Ram,

Ram,

Ram.

Ram.

And it means many things like God and Dearest One.

But I invite you to focus just on the sound.

Staying it silently on your head.

Allowing it to draw you into a deep,

Quiet space within.

And in this practice our thoughts are not the enemy,

Our effort is.

So how much can we surrender?

With each Ram we let go.

Imagine your thoughts are guests at your meditation party.

We are the gracious host and not the bouncer.

Our thoughts are just there.

And then when it arises naturally we return to Ram.

Ram.

Dear One,

Can you do less?

Even less.

Issues come up,

They are ok,

We let them go.

It's all just as it is.

Like it,

Not like it.

It is.

And we let it go.

Ram,

Ram,

Ram.

The mantra drawing us deeper into the stillness.

We let go of our anger but we hold it lightly.

Wherever you are now,

Can that be ok?

Giving up effort to try and get somewhere else.

We let go.

Let's exchange our mantra for Shrim.

Shrim.

Shrim.

It's the seed mantra of Lakshmi.

Feminine principle of abundance,

Grace,

Gratitude.

The good things of the Goddess.

And we switch to receptive mode.

So we've used the masculine mantra to become into a place of more quiet peace and depth.

And once we get where we are going to,

We can open our palms and receive.

Shrim.

Shrim.

Shrim.

What is it we receive?

What do we invite in?

Still effort is minimal.

We allow the goodness of the universe to flow into us.

The beauty of the natural world.

The abundance of the natural world flowing into us.

The beauty of the natural world.

The peace of our inner quiet.

Choosing.

Choosing to create gratitude but without effort.

See if we can allow it to bubble up with no effort at all.

Trim.

Trim.

Trim.

The energy of the living universe flowing into us with each breath.

Thank you for this breath.

Thank you for this breath.

This breath even more delicious.

Releasing the mantra.

All effort is released with it.

Just the breath left now.

With each conscious breath,

The connection with the living universe grows.

Releasing the mantra.

We've got the journey back to our regular state of consciousness.

But there's no hurry.

So we'll take a few deeper breaths.

One.

Two.

Imagining energy flowing into the body and bringing with it the urge to move.

Three.

Four.

Having a little stretch,

Starting to move the fingers and toes.

Wrists and ankles.

Five.

Having a stretch that feels right for you.

Couple more conscious breaths as we return to our regular waking state of consciousness.

Thank you for practicing with me.
