Here's a wonderful poem by the great Sufi poet Rumi on being a lover. For Rumi, to be a lover was not to claim for oneself, but actually to admit one's vulnerability and even helplessness before this Love. The Divine purpose behind all creation, according to Rumi, is to reveal the true dimensions of Divine Love. Mawlana Jalaluddin Mohammad Balkhi, popularly known as "Rumi", is a 13th-century Sufi poet. Today he is recognised as one of the greatest poets who ever lived, due in part to how his words seem to speak to the divine. Love and gratitude to Coleman Barks for his beautiful translations and dedication. Photo by Irina Iriser.

What was in that candle's light that opened and consumed me so quickly?

Come back,

My friend.

The form of our love is not a created form.

Nothing can help me but that beauty.

There was a dawn,

I remember,

When my soul heard something from your soul.

I drank water from your spring and felt the current take me.
