In this poem 'Sky-Circles', Rumi muses on ‘surrender ’. Birds fall and they are given wings, their fall is a Trust fall. What he hints at, is that there is no effort on the part of everything existential, be it a river, a mountain, a bird, a fish, an insect, and an animal. They live in a state of constant surrender… Mawlana Jalaluddin Mohammad Balkhi, popularly known as "Rumi", is a 13th-century Sufi poet. Today he is recognised as one of the greatest poets who ever lived, due in part to how his words seem to speak to the divine. Love and gratitude to Coleman Barks for his beautiful translations and dedication. Photo by Lindz Marsh.

The way of love is not a subtle argument.

The door there is devastation.

Birds make great sky circles of their freedom.

How do they learn that?

They fall,

And falling,

Their given wings.
