In this poem Blessing 'The Marriage', Rumi muses on ‘Fana ’, which encompasses dissolving beyond doubt and certainty. Fana moves in the night like a star with no name. Clear bead at the center, love with no object, one swaying being, the knack of compassion without attachment. These Lovers love death because it keeps them moving beyond limits. Let go of fear and attachment and surrender to love. Mawlana Jalaluddin Mohammad Balkhi, popularly known as "Rumi", is a 13th-century Sufi poet. Today he is recognised as one of the greatest poets who ever lived, due in part to how his words seem to speak to the divine. Love and gratitude to Coleman Barks for his beautiful translations and dedication. Photo by Frank McKenna.

Transcript

This marriage be wine with halva,

Honey dissolving in milk.

This marriage be the leaves and fruit of a day tree.

This marriage be women laughing together for days on end.

This marriage a sign for us to study.

This marriage beauty.

This marriage a moon in a light blue sky.

This marriage this silence fully mixed with spirit.
