Transcript

This is a meditation around uncertainty.

So please find the right time and the right place where you can sit undisturbed and find a position that is comfortable yet upright.

Take time to find a posture where the body feels balanced,

Where the weight can drop through the sit bones,

Where the spine can be upright yet relaxed so you can breathe easily,

Where the neck is long and the shoulders relaxed.

Notice your body.

Gather your awareness into your body.

Become aware that it is a breathing body.

And while we sit,

The body is much more still.

There is still movement as we breathe in and out.

And with each out-breath,

Allow tension to release and the body to relax.

And we are just aware of sitting.

Sitting with our awareness on the sensations in our body,

And our breath.

Let the awareness be soft and broad.

We may become aware of thoughts that arise.

We're not certain what thoughts will arise next.

There is uncertainty in our thinking.

Thoughts come,

Thoughts go.

We cannot predict what our thoughts will be.

And we come back to the body and the breath.

Uncertain of what sensations will arise in our field of awareness.

Sensations come and go,

Arise and pass away.

And we may become aware of feelings.

Our feelings are uncertain.

They often respond to our thoughts.

What do you notice comes first,

Thoughts or feelings?

Feelings arise and pass away.

Our whole field of being is one of flow and change and uncertainty.

Ebbing and flowing,

Coming and going.

Our only constant is awareness.

But this too we can tune into and tune out of.

But even if we are not aware of our awareness,

It is always present.

The more we become aware of our awareness,

The more we can sit with uncertainty.

Awareness is like the atmosphere around the earth.

Ever-present.

Encompassing the busy movement of the planet.

So too our awareness,

Ever-present.

Encompassing the busy movement of our mind,

Our emotions and our sensations.

If we expand out into the atmosphere of awareness,

We can sit with the ever-changing uncertainty of being.

So rest back,

Broaden out into presence and awareness.

Feel its stillness and silence.

And as you do so,

Notice the effects on your body,

Mind and emotions.

Notice how expansive it is.

And there may be moments when the body,

The mind or the feelings contract back in.

Take a breath and as you breathe out,

Rest back into expansive awareness.

Boundless presence.

And you can continue this way for as long as you would like to meditate.
