It's so important to create a space for ourselves.
This helps us to feel calmer,
Helps us to let go of tension,
Assess our current situation and can help us to take a step back and gain clarity.
It can give us time and space to process our emotions and give us a mental break.
It also helps us to feel connected to the present moment and to the energy within us and around us.
We can create space in all layers of our being from the very physical and material aspects of ourselves to the spiritual and more ethereal aspects of our being.
With this short meditation we can create space in all layers of our being and use these techniques whenever we need a break,
A time out or more appropriately a time in with ourselves.
So start by giving yourself some physical space for this practice,
Finding a time and space when you won't be disturbed,
Perhaps an area in your house or garden that can be your meditation place.
You can still do this practice anywhere and at any time but having a physical sacred space creates a powerful energy.
Next let's create some physical space in our body.
Make yourself comfortable either sitting or lying down,
Close the eyes and begin to soften your body.
Let go of holding and tension and allow yourself to soften.
Soften your forehead,
Your jaw,
Your shoulders,
Your abdominals,
Your pelvis.
Open through the whole body and as you release tension and holding from your body feel how that softness creates space.
Space for your physical body to function better,
Space for your breath to move deeper.
Take a moment to connect with your breath and how it flows from the space outside of you to the space within you and back again.
Feel the breath and the space.
Now bring your awareness into the emotional aspect of yourself.
Take a moment to tune into what you are feeling and allow whatever is there to be mobile and moving.
I like to think of emotions as e-motion,
Energy in motion.
So try to release the held emotions,
Let them move so that you can create emotional space.
This directly impacts your physical body and creates even more space physically.
As emotions are often felt and can get stuck in your body such as a knot in the stomach or stress in the shoulders.
So breathe into these emotions and allow them to move,
To flow.
Good or bad,
Give them motion.
Now bring your awareness to the mental aspects of your being,
To your mind and your thoughts.
You can't stop thoughts,
It's a part of being alive but you can choose to put aside your thoughts that are not necessary in this moment.
To give yourself a little mental space and perhaps to choose to focus your awareness elsewhere like onto the breath for just a few minutes.
When you catch yourself having run off with your thoughts,
Simply and gently bring yourself back to your breath and tell yourself that everything else can wait just for a few minutes.
When you create space in your environment,
In your physical body,
In your emotional and mental fields,
You then open yourself up to creating space for a spiritual connection,
Whatever that means to you.
Perhaps just taking time to connect with yourself,
To feel wholeness or connecting to a higher self or connecting to the divine or the universe or just being open to something beyond your physical and material existence.
It's in the creating space that we may find the answers to the questions we need to ask,
Clarity or guidance or just connecting to a knowing and a trusting.
So take a few moments just to open up and breathe into this space.
Breathe through the space you have created in all layers of your being.
Take a moment to connect with your heart space.
Breathe an opening and a space into your heart.
Feel the love that flows here.
Take a few moments to enjoy this space,
Putting everything else aside for just a few minutes.
Let go of expectations and just be with this space and your breath.
And when you are ready,
Gently bring your awareness back into your body.
Start to deepen the breath.
Perhaps give a wriggle to your fingers and toes,
Moving your body.
Take a deep breath in here.
Feel that space and exhale.
