Alternate Nostril Breathing The purpose of the alternate nostril breathing is to balance out the metabolic processes.

This kind of breathing also purifies the mind and body,

Renewing and balancing out our energy.

Alternate nostril breathing balances out the energy channels in the body.

Before practicing this breathing exercise,

You should be sure to clear your sinuses completely.

Before getting into the actual practice of alternate nostril breathing,

I just want you to sit for a moment with your spine straight,

But relaxed,

And begin to breathe slowly and deeply,

Relaxing the mind and the body.

Allow your breath to settle into an easy,

Natural,

And rhythmic pattern.

Continue breathing deeply,

In and out.

Feel yourself sinking deeper and deeper where you are sitting,

Letting go of all distractions and thoughts.

As you take another deep breath and slowly exhale,

You feel yourself growing very peaceful and centered.

Just allow yourself to feel the breath as it moves through your body,

And begin to breathe a little deeper as you breathe out any strain or tension you feel in the body.

Just let yourself go,

And it feels so good.

In a moment,

We will begin the alternate nostril breathing.

This exercise begins by getting your right hand into the proper position.

Begin by opening the palm of your right hand.

Fold down your index and middle finger to your palm,

Keeping the thumb,

Pinky finger,

And ring finger up.

Now,

Some people have a difficult time keeping their ring finger up when their middle finger is down,

And so if that's too difficult,

Just fold the ring finger down too,

And you can use your pinky to close the nostril.

There are four steps to complete one cycle,

An inhalation through the left nostril,

And exhalation through the right nostril,

Then an inhalation back through the right nostril,

And finally an exhalation through the left nostril.

And this would be one full cycle.

So we will begin by blocking off the air passage of the right nostril by taking your right thumb and closing the right nostril.

Inhale through the left nostril.

Release the right nostril with the straight thumb.

Take your ring or pinky finger and close the left nostril,

Exhaling through the right nostril.

Inhale back through the right nostril,

Then close it with your right thumb again.

Release the left nostril while exhaling from the left nostril,

And this completes one cycle.

We will be doing this technique for about six full cycles.

Over time,

You will find that you can do more,

But for now,

Let's just begin with six rounds.

Let's begin.

Inhale through the left nostril for the count of four.

Exhale through the right nostril for the count of six.

Inhale back through the right nostril for the count of four.

Exhale through the left for the count of six.

Inhale through the left for four.

Exhale through the right for six.

Inhale through the right for four.

And exhale through the left for six.

Inhale left for four.

Exhale right for six.

Inhale right for four.

Exhale left for six.

Inhale left for four.

Exhale right for six.

Inhale right for four.

Exhale left for six.

Inhale left for four.

Exhale right for six.

Inhale right for four.

Exhale left for six.

Inhale left for four.

Exhale right for six.

Inhale right for four.

And finally exhaling left for the count of six.

Very nice.

This kind of breathing technique can clear your channels of energy.

If you ever feel dizzy,

Just sit quietly and allow yourself to center.

Feel your energy as it moves through your body and become aware of any sensations.

This exercise helps you restore balances in your brain,

Improves sleep,

Improves your thinking power,

And helps you to feel calm and centered.

It merges right brain and left brain thinking and clears and boosts your energy channels.

Just relax for a minute and allow yourself to enjoy this deep,

Relaxing,

And peaceful feeling.
